Hi,

I started a discussion a little while ago in the Supercars area about my next purchase. I have now driven / seen all the various cars that were in the frame and have pretty much decided on a Vanquish. It's not the quickest and the tech may be someway behind other marques, but it puts a much bigger smile on my face than the others - DB11 included.

I am very close to putting a deposit on a car that has 20k miles, 3 former keepers, a full AMSH (will be serviced immediately prior to collection) and will have a year's AM warranty. My question is to those that currently own, or have previously owned, a Vanquish is: Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for or paying attention to?

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

No particular weak points.

Service History - should have a Pollen Filter and Air Filter at 20K miles

Check under the front splitter for any damage

Ask the (presumably AM) dealer if the checked/weighed the CCM brakes and are pads etc got good life on them (even if they look meaty if the brakes feel graunchy get them looked at/changed)

Bolster wear on seat

Check for water ingress/condensation head and tail lamps

Check for water ingress in boot (rare but does happen)

Squeaks and bumps at low speed (can be all sorts of things from brakes to in my case exhaust valve which needed a whole new back box under warranty)

If it is not an S get the secondary cats removed (AM dealers can do this with AM approved parts)

I had issues with the wheel arch liners sagging (all replaced under warranty) but other than that nothing remarkable.

Getting close to 20k miles on it now and can’t think of anything I’d rather have in its place.

Watch out for the boot escape handle. Mine got partially pulled out due to luggage shifting whilst driving and caused the car to think the book was open (which it wasn’t) and disable the boot release electronics. AM rescue suggested that I’d need to reshift the luggage! The handle is now taped down.

You will need to get used to people shouting things at you like "Nice car mate" and "That's gorgeous" also you may find that many passers by will stick their thumb up. Apart from that, no issues yet :-)

LooneyTunes - Thanks for info. Now that the excitement of the initial viewing and drive have settled I am going back to have another look over the car taking a fine-tooth comb approach; I will probably have a notebook with a list of things to check as I have no shame and want to make sure I get everything I can sorted pre purchase if this is the car I go for. I am not in a particular rush, especially as the prices of all marques at this end of the market seem to be falling day by day, and it appears to be more of a buyer's market than ever.

Tiganut & GG33 - Great to hear positive comments about owners loving their cars!! I do like the look and thought of the V12S (haven't driven one), but as I can only afford one of these cars the Vanquish is ahead for me. We have had a DB9 and a DBS in the past so guess the GT thing is a better fit.

I assume so, but couldn't say for definite. Is that standard on a 62 plate car?

No, the 8 speed appeared as standard at some point during 2014 and onwards. You will be looking at a 6 speed, and a very early example.
