37.5K budget everday usability
Discussion
Fellow Pistonheaders,
Struggling to decide what car to buy next, usually keep my cars for a year before moving on to something else
Had over the past 3 years a Porsche Boxster S (981), Jaguar F Type 3.0 S and currently a BMW F82 M4
Budget is max £37.5k (private sale), needs to be reliable as I'll be doing roughly 10k miles per annum. What would you go for?
Louis

1yr old Mustang GT.
Ideally older than 3 years for depreciation, I've just done the pacific coast highway in a mustang and I feel the interior is so far behind the stuff I've had over the past few yearsTry a UK spec and well-spec'd car for size, I only say because some American hire companies get real poverty spec cars in their fleet and a Mustang is no exception.
SLK55 AMG. The R172 version. Decent examples can be had for sub 30k, 2 seats doesn't seem to put you off.
Seriously under rated cars, in dark colours they look very good, and 420BHP V8, can't grumble.
I had the R171 model before and it was an awesome machine. Theatre when you wanted it, wafting when you dont.
Also consider an SL but they're a bit bit, heavy, dare i say 'flash'.

This is something definitely on my radar, never owned a v8 and an itch which needs scratchingSeriously under rated cars, in dark colours they look very good, and 420BHP V8, can't grumble.

There's one on AT advertised for 23k which seems like a bargain I'm just not 100% sure on the looks, I know I can't really say this coming from a boxster but is it a bit too much of a hairdressers car. I love the 981 design and just not sure on the SLK55
Drive one and see what you think, they are brilliant.
there's enough AMG to get the pulse going, there's enough mercedes to be usable and pleasurable.
I only sold mine as i needed 4 seats but if i could have kept it I would have in a heart beat.
at £23k it's great value, the R171 looks a bit prettier but the R172 is a big step up in terms of interior and gadgets.

In a dark silver/Grey with the bengal red leather they look great. In white i think a bit hairdresser.
Black very common so probably not easy to avoid but worth searching out a non black in my opinion.
if you're swapping cars after a year or so as a frequent thing this'd be a good car to consider as you'd get your V8 itch scratched, may swing you in the MB brand (for other AMG stuff to tickle your fancy at a later point) and also you wont loose that much on it, £2k at a maximum i'd bet.
There is an option called magic sky. sounds naff but it's well worth seeking out, the central roof panel is switchable from clear to very dark tint. superb in the winter or when the top has to go up.
Air scarf seats and general other Benz goodies are fab.
I know i'm being a bit SLK fanboy but given the original post and your subsequent Info, i think it's a fair shout.
Good luck in your search mate.
