So bojo’s new 30 day limit laid out by merkel to come up with an alternative to the backstop got me thinking. He could do with the collective power of PH to think of ways to get around that pesky backstop with some new ideas, so get your creative juices flowing!

Apart from a bespoke FTA between the ROI and the UK i cant think of anything that breaks the deadlock, and that idea will taste like a dogst sandwich to the EU.

For the trade side, just run it through ph classifieds? Or 'stick it in the cloud'?? Or, um...blockchain - yeah - blockchain!!

Just don't do anything. Lots of countries have thousands of miles of borders that are completely unguarded, why does Northern Ireland need a wall?

Just Sell the UK to Trump for $1.

As part of America we’ll get cheap petrol gas and peanut butter M&Ms.

This. Insisting on an unwelcome wall is just a transparent attempt at leverage.

1) employ an adequate number of inspectors to visit farms and abbatoirs to ensure food and animals meet EU spec. The island isn't that big a place so you don't need checks at the border.
2) trusted trader scheme linked to tax and VAT records to evidence transactions at the point of invoicing. Tax incentives for traders to join such a scheme.
3) a joint Republic / UK customs unit that would have powers to visit EU or UK businesses to ensure compliance.
4) draft a declaration in which the EU declare that this is a special situation due to the Good Friday agreement and that the absence of a physical border does not form a precedent for other EU nations.

And perhaps force Merkel, Varadkar or whoever to state who, exactly, would erect a border? The UK won't, so who will?

Nobody is talking about a wall. Name one border between an EU and non EU country that doesn't have border checks?

As it stands at the moment, I would have thought the best plan would be dust off and then nuke the site from orbit. Only way to be sure.

Game over, man. Game over.

Make it like the Swiss borders. Main routes for trucks etc manned, camera's etc, smaller routes in manned between certain hours, camera'd others, and if you want to wade across fields and mountains for miles, get on with it and climb the odd fence here and there.

Can we not just check what the border between Norway and Sweden is like and copy that solution?

Or Switzerland and everywhere else as suggested.
