Hi Everyone,

I've been on the lookout for a cheap bike to get me back on two wheels, things are a bit tight at the moment due to a house purchase.

I've come across a 1998 Vfr800fi, in yellow, full history, stainless exhaust system, mct forks, wilber rear shock. Looks really tidy bar the fork legs needing a tidy up. It's available for £1300.

Now it all sounds great, the only sticking point is it's got 47500 miles on the clock. Does anyone have any experience with big miles on these bikes?

It seems to have most of the common complaints of these bikes addressed and they have a better rep than the vtec vfr.

Suppose I'm just after some opinions as to whether it may be a good buy.

Cheers

If it has a full history, the shock has been replaced and it is a full stainless system (headers etc), then the majority of the problem areas have been addressed. The RegRec has probably been changed by now and the VFR engine is rock solid if it's maintained properly.

Sounds like you've found a decent one - up to you if you think that's the right price or not.

58k miles on my 98 VFR and it's running better than ever.
Check the reg/rec which as previously said must have been changed at that mileage then buy it.

I only ran mine to 31k but thrashed it and it never ever used even a drop of oil. Only one thing about that bike that's bad is bleeding the bloomin linked brakes! Otherwise a great bike and that one you mention sounds like its had the right stuff replaced.

If looked after, VFR's can do monster mileage, 47k is nothing.

Mine is just about to click 70k miles!

It is my first bike however and only about 2k of those were riden by me.

I paid 1k for mine, average cosmetically. Yours at 1300 sounds like a good price by comparison.

enjoy

That's great, thanks for the input everyone.

I'm going to arrange to see it on Monday, I'll be sure to pop up some pics of the bike if I buy it.
