Sounds like the "safe spaces" will be in real demand later. Not least as the silent disco was cancelled.

Poor souls, I am praying for them.

I think they're trying to turn a quite concerning crowd control issue into a pop at the soft youth of today.

Pretty weird.

That they are a bunch of fking melts.

The videos show absolutely nothing, nothing worse that Alton Towers queues.

And the interviews suggest patheticness at a very high level.

Plus of course they are queuing for a silent disco that automatically means they are tts.

Look at the videos. Nothing seems to be happening. Apart from some tt climbs up a pole and loads of them are singing.

Bit of a squash of some over-excited teens on their first night on site with nothing else provided by Festival Republic, so it becomes an obvious flashpoint, whipped up as news just because of social media doing the hacks' job for them.

That said, Reading has gone totally downhill since it went 'urban' a few years ago - I say that as a 20 times consecutive veteran.

Mark my words with the bands they are booking there will be a knife crime incident there sooner or later.

My wife saw a couple of punch-ups down the front at Eminem the other year, something that would never have happened in the rock and indie days. I was at the Festival Republic tent lamenting a great festival slowly going down the swanny.

What's wrong with silent discos? We had Fatboy Slim do an hour silent disco set on our stage at Glastonbury this year and it was absolutely brilliant fun. Far from silent with everyone singing along in all the chorus bits or going "woop woop" in unison biggrin

Same guy/company provided all the headsets to the various Glasto silent discos as this event at Reading.

Local authorities require festivals to kybosh the noise at 11pm or so. Silent discos let people party longer than that on site if they want to. Where's the problem? I am grateful for this, living a matter of yards from the Reading main stage, now that I'm not exactly in the demographic they're aiming the Festival at these days, after about 20 years of attendance.

There'd better bloody not be!

I tried to Shazam the sound checks in the garden yesterday evening, device/app couldn't make it out though. Disappointing. I'll give it a try with the live stuff later. We're going down to our riverside patch tomorrow afternoon, youngest wants to see how well we can hear Billie Eilish. Might well launch the boat and get a bit closer.

I saw RATM back in 07 and got caught in a crush. Was actually a fairly scary experience. Nowhere to move, just moving in unison with hundreds of others one way then another.

I'd not put this on the same level.

The silent disco walking tours around Edinburgh in August are awesome.

NP&E is turning into an episode of Grumpy Old Men.

Anyone who purposely removes one of their senses by wearing headphone in public deserves whatevers coming to them in my opinion.
Same to the s who walk around with their stupid faces glued to their stupid phones.

You're just not down with the kids, Granpa!

(Be safe in the knowledge that at least some of us have made it to old age, many of the people you describe wont!) LOL

Turning into? It's the home of grumpy old men. They're drawn to it like salmon up a river. Except instead of a natural urge to procreate drawing them forward it's an urge to berate everything

I used to count myself as one of them.

Had a bit of a life changing experience (first world problem admittedly) and decided to change my outlook.

I do think it's very often a choice to be like that.

Agree about this in public, but I don't see the connection to a silent disco in a field or tent at a festival where people have purposely gone with the intention of listening to and dancing to music!

Rubbish I had a hoot at a silent disco at London Zoo.We partied and the penguins weren't disturbed other than having to witness my moves.
