I absolutely love Gears of War, have done since the start. I have a ritual each time a GOW game comes out, I play it blind on hardcore to see the story, then I do a run on insane difficulty and grab the collectables, then run again on insane or hardcore in co-op with my friends, depending on who I'm playing with.

If you have Gamespass, all the older GOW games are on there and the new one is coming too. Gamespass ultimate subscribers get the ultimate edition but other than playing a few days early you don't get much over the standard version. I have GP ultimate anyway, so I'll be playing on the 5th of September. Take note, it doesn't go live until 9pm.

Yes - very much looking forward to this one! The new campaign looks great with some nice changes made to the traditional formula.

Gah, it’s a bit meh, same old same old. I’ll persevere, but it’s not really grabbing me and Horde isn’t exciting me either.

Ooooo, I used to love horde, my fave was that one with a ruin in the middle, where I could build a turret in a nice bottleneck

Finished the first act, so far I'm enjoying it and it does look gorgeous. Plenty of weird bugs though - I've tried the escape mode twice and been stuck at a door, and died in the campaign, been stuck on the saving screen and been thrown back a chapter. I hate PvP, but from what I've seen there seems to be no option to just play against the CPU?

Gears 4 was beautiful but left me a little cold, it was very much Gears by-the-numbers. I'm only about four hours in to Gears 5 but it already feels like it was created with a mind to mixing up the status quo somewhat. I'm impressed so far.

Oh, and being a Gears game, it looks incredible (on One X at least) too.

Liking it so far. Into act 3 but few bugs are annoying and get me killed repeatedly at times.

Your team mate not doing much when playing solo. Getting stuck in places and getting shot.

Bar that the most I have played of a gears game since the first one and enjoying it.

I've been playing solo for about 30 minutes a night, it just isn't exciting me at all. I play on the hardest level until I can try insane, but all the enemies are bullet sponges and soak up a whole clip and still run off behind cover when you're reloading, very frustrating. Yeah I know I need more headshots, but it seems more luck than judgement.

Gave up on Horde, nobody wants to bank the power, they prefer to waste the power by giving themselves an almost pointless perk rolleyes

This is the first game I've ever tried to get a refund on, but I didn't have any success as it's a digital download so I'll need to persevere and get my money's worth.

I'm a way in to Act 3 now, and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game so far. Multiplayer has been brief but fun and the campaign has been a very pleasant surprise.

I'm on Act 4 now and have really enjoyed the campaign, a big step up from Gears 4. Apart from the Matriarch boss, which was just plain unfair, and the at times awful companion AI.

With a couple of the bosses they do seem to be designed to just kill you for the sake of it.

Campaign done, overall very good despite a blatantly obvious twist and a cliffhanger ending that resolves nothing, although does have the guts to kill off a main character. Didn't get the achievement though, stuck at 80% despite all chapters being marked as complete.

Are you going to go back through on Insane? I got stuck on GoW4 Insane and just cannot get past one spot no matter how hard I try.

I have to say it's growing on me, not the multiplayer, but the campaign, I'm liking the sub plots.

Had this downloaded from launch, yet to play it though. Loved all other GoW, so by the sounds of it, need to start this.

I've just finished Act 3 and it really rammed home just how well Gears 5 manages to avoid the feeling of repetition that earlier iterations of the franchise suffered from from, and the climax was fantastically exciting and on a scale that utterly dwarfed anything before it.

It's comfortably the best game in the franchise and has to be in the conversation about the very best Xbox has to offer.
