Government to ask Queen to suspend Parliament

So our unelected leader wants to suspend parliamentary process. And we're OK with that?
I'd love to hear the bootlickers on here try and justify this. It's indefensible so I suppose most just want this to hide away and be forgotten on page 50 of the Boris Johnson thread or page 99 of the brexit thread where the majority won't see it.
'Taking back control'
Utterly shameful.

Good political move though, outmaneuvering all the Lilliputians trying to bring down the government. So our unelected leader wants to suspend parliamentary process. And we're OK with that?

I see nothing shameful in it. shameful is having stood on a GE manifesto to deliver Brexit to then not allow it to pass in Parliament.
Grieve and his ilk have made it clear they would use every procedural trick in the book to block it, I think the Government are simply fighting fire with fire.

We should have one dedicated Brexit thread on here I think.
Oh no, wait, we do.
Nonsense, this is an attack on our Parliament and our country. This is not to be buried as just another bit of borish news on the Brexit rollercoaster.Oh no, wait, we do.
Of course it'd be convenient to turn a blind eye.

I really don't like the idea personally. But I actually find the nonsense Swinson, Grieve and Co have been up to far more distasteful.
The whole house on both sides of this particular debate stinks IMO, and has not shown this country's democracy in a very good light no matter which way one looks at it.
Johnson's team were, IMO playing the game very well. But this move is counterproductive IMO.

Too afraid of the debate to allow parliamentary discussion.... appalling.
Haven’t we had that for the last three years? This has nothing to do with democracy as some people are stating, democracy is doing what the people voted for and leaving the EU.
I voted remain but am sick to death of the incompetence of politicians, let’s get it done and get on with our lives!

It really is, I'm not surprised about Boris. He has been shameless about his desire for power over his whole career. Shameless about lying and conniving to get there. It's the populous who will roll over for it that surprise and disgust me. The so called patriots who have been worked up into a lather and can't see the wood
for the trees.

Just imagine if Comrade Corbyn was in power and tried to do something similar to get his ‘vision’ of the UK enabled.
This is the box you’ve just opened.
I think we'd have to wait for the Red tops (and the high brow red tops eg Telegraph) to come up with a nice alliterative name (Bonkers Boris?) for him before people would get upset. This is the box you’ve just opened.
Proroguing Parliament and introducing a new Queen's Speech is a pretty normal and regular thing to happen actually.
I'll admit the timing is interesting but the idea it is some sort of unusual act doesn't stack up. All Government have and will do so and we are way over due for it regardless of Brexit.

What ‘vision’?This is the box you’ve just opened.
The public voting to leave the EU isn’t a vision, it’s called democracy and it’s the politicians who can’t respect that public vote.

The timing is blinding. Just after the G7 summit and the RoW is starting to get the feeling that Boris is serious about being out by October 31st. Yesterday's plotting by the remainers would have reeled back on that somewhat and given some in the EU positive re-inforcement that it wasn't our PM's decision to make.I'll admit the timing is interesting...
Well, now they know it is.

As a tool to circumnavigate the will of Parliament?
One parliamentary procedure being used to ensure the will of the people is carried out by preventing a bunch of collaborators using another parliamentary procedure to further delay (in the hope of overturning) the carrying out of the will of the people, you mean?Edited by Evercross on Wednesday 28th August 10:05

Our sovereignty is based on Parliamentary Powers. Anything which attacks that which has kept us strong as a country for centuries is an actual attack on Britain as a nation. Especially worrying when there are so many 'interesting' international players poking their noses into proceedings. The public voting to leave the EU isn’t a vision, it’s called democracy and it’s the politicians who can’t respect that public vote.
