Van has been cloned

Ok new one on me

Our camper van has been cloned

Somebody in London is driving around going through red lights

No ours is a camper with windows, vents etc. Black wheels vs silver.

There’s is a panel van apparently that’s not enough proof. How the hell are we supposed to prove we weren’t in London?

Email them photos of your van and they will compare them to those from the traffic light cameras...

At this stage you do not have to prove anything.

Assuming you have received a s172 notice asking for driver details and you have seen photos of the offence, write back with s172 saying it is not your vehicle, it would also be helpful to enclose a picture if the differences are easy to see

I've had similar and once I sent them photos of my vehicle they dropped it

IME if being nice doesn't work - ask for their Manager and shout

I'm assuming here that both are old VW campers? as "camper" tends to be the generic term for those Nazi buses.

There's a big market for them, they get stolen and cloned and due to no VED they can often get missed, you may well find that yours is the clone......

Don’t you think that it’s more likely that the one driving around breaking all the laws is the clone?

Also there is no such thing as no VED even if they are classed as historic they still need to be taxed but the rate is zero

Apparent'y the Mrs called somebody and they said that pics were not enough I’ll find out more tomorrow

Sounds fishy to me too and we need to get a crime benumbed from police which is understandable

Yes, but imagine two owners who think they have the genuine vehicle...... One gets no notification of VED, they think nothing of it because they think that's how it works.

OP remember while all the shenanigans are going on you still have to return the S172 within 28 days to fulfill your obligation or risk a nasty fine and 6 points, so don’t mess around with phone calls, you will often get someone on the other end who is clueless, do as I said earlier and send it back signed with a letter attached
