I purchased a. '08 coupe recently and have been working through the list of minor issues. Replaced a door gas strut and the thermostat, glued the door seals back and painted the brake rotors. Next job on the list is the exhaust bypass. The car came fitted with a switch in the ash tray so that the bypass could be switched manually but it didn't work (luckily it was locked in the open position). I tracked the problem to the switch which I replaced and now when it is turned 'off' the vacuum pump starts and the valves close, however, after the car has been running for a couple of minutes and the idle speed has dropped, the valves open on their own. I suspect there is perhaps a problem with the solenoid, but before I start pulling things apart, just wanted to check if there were any other ideas? I assume the valve should stay closed at all times except when revs exceed 4000rpm? Or are there some other conditions when it opens? The other issue is that the drivers door won't automatically 'drop' when you open the door. The passenger ones works fine and I have tried the 'soft' reset procedure as well as removing a fuse, but no change. Is the next step to remove the door card and investigate internally?

The valves do open at low revs, I have learned on here, but mine stay closed at idle so maybe you have a particularly low idle? Or maybe a tiny vacuum leak, which probably won't repair itself! If it gets worse the valves start to stay open at higher revs.

I don't have direct experience but it sounds like the window is sticking a bit, is the window movement otherwise smooth and squeak-free? My drivers door squeals from time to time but still does the little-open and re-close properly. SO maybe I need the card off too!

As long as the vacuum pump stops working after ignition is turned on, all is good - otherwise there could be a leak in the rubber hoses connecting pump, reservoir and valves.

Window learning procedure: drive it down and hold until you here the little "click" sound, then drive it up, and hold until you here the little "click" sound - repeat other side, done!

I had a mate around and the valve does close again just off idle so looks like it is all working OK. Just have to work out why the window won't 'dip' on opening.

In relation to the window, have you got a fully charged battery and is it in good condition?

They do seem to 'lose their memory' on these settings if battery voltage is even slightly down, try giving it a charge and then re-set the windows again as described above.

When the window stopped dropping on my 2006 Vantage when it was 9 years old, I tried everything before finally resorting to a new regulator unit in the door frown ...about £280
