I'm after something fairly bomb proof, to tow a folding camper, with a big boot. 4WD useful, but not absolutely essential. I want something under £10k, and newer than 2011 or so. I've also got a lot of DIY on at the moment, with a lot of tip runs needed for everything from baths to piles of concrete, so something fairly rugged would be best. Young children also on hand to try to destroy anything too nice...

At the moment, seems a T31 X-Trail (2007 up to 2014) would be a good bet. I've had a look at CR-Vs and RAV4s but wasn't keen on either.

Part of me is still tempted by an older XC90 or an XC70, but the potential for broken bits and big bills would be far greater.

Anyone had one of the X-Trails - anything I should be looking out for? Seems to me that the 171hp version with a decent spec fits the bill well, but any opinions very welcome...

Thanks!

The X Trail is a good car but f you want a good robust & reliable tow vehicle you'll be hard pressed to beat these two, both have strong reliable engines & they're a nice place to be:
