I’m sure these questions have been asked many times before, but I could do with some advice about fitting the harnesses to my GT3:

The supplied harnesses are the Schroth HANS type with the 2 inch wide shoulder straps. Is it worth buying a non HANS set with wider (3 inch) top straps, or do most people use the 2 inch wide ones without HANS?

(I do have a HANS device but it’s 30 degree angle so not suitable the for GT3 seats)

OPC has quoted 4 hours or so fitting time per side with ~£500 labour charge per side. It looks like a really simple task that can be done without removing the folding buckets and I’m struggling to see how it could take more than an hour. Has anyone tried fitting them and if so is it trickier than it looks?

Schroth instuctions say the shoulder belts need to be crossed behind the seat but all the GT3s I’ve seen with harnesses fitted have the shoulder straps ‘straight through’ which appears incorrect. How are yours fitted?

Finally, what’s the preferred way of silencing the seat belt warning chime?

Many thanks for any help!

Buy a HANS device... (which really you should have with harnesses in any case)... and use the fitted 2inch.
For passengers.... they can use the 2inch at their own risk, if they don't have a HANS or just use the normal 3-point, which would be safer that without a HANS.

Or as you mention.. learn to wrap them yourself. I did this.... its pretty straight forward dependant on the type of End Fitting... usually an LV10 for the shoulder straps.
Excellent series that I used from HMSMotorsport...https://youtu.be/zGcN-JAMw3c from 2m35.

Ref Crossing - it depends on the distance to the mounting point. But for GT3 you don't need to cross if you are mount to OEM roll cage.

I believe it is a “seats out” job....I asssume the crotch strap secures underneath the seat so don’t see how that could be done otherwise although never looked closely!

I have just bought a 991.1 and OPC fitted my harnesses and extinguisher for free as they were optioned with the car by the original owner.

The issue with the 991.2 GT3 crotch strap is that it does not move with the seat. Therefore, for the release buckle to be in the optimum position the straps need to be adjusted for the seat position of the individual driver. This can be a fiddly and iterative process as the strap adjustment is under the seat.

While I would not argue against HANS device being a good idea in principle, in practice it’s not that common for the occasional track use. That makes the 2” straps supplied as standard something of a risk item. I told my OPC I was not happy with the 2” straps and they agreed to supply and fit a new Schroth 6 point harness with 3” shoulder straps without charge. I also got to keep the OEM 2” set, so a good result all round.

Guys - you don't need to take the seats out to swap out the shoulder harnesses only.
Check the original post.

Again - i wouldn't use the 2inch shoulder straps without a HANS - 3inch is safer (if no HANS) - but using HANS with Harness is best of all.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

The car does not have the harnesses fitted at all at the moment. I may speak to the original supplying OPC as well as my main dealer to see if I can negotiate having them fitted FOC as the harnesses were supplied as part of the original order.

I am minded to buy a black Schroth harness with 3 inch straps that is also HANS friendly as this will give more flexibility. Looks like the harnesses now supplied by porsche with GT3RS have 3 inch top straps as standard.

I found the attached which makes fitting appear very straightforward with folding buckets

My 991.1 GT3RS had them optioned but never fitted along with the extinguisher. When I bought my car 2 months ago they were missing so the dealer ordered them and also fitted them for no charge. I would push your dealer to fit them for free if they were optioned with the car when it new.

Ok. As you’ve now clarified that you don’t have anything fitted… then yes it’s seats out to get the crotch/anti-sub belt in. You could do it without as I’ve removed and re-fitted mine a couple of times without removing the seat. But seat out is quicker.… more room to work with.
I was also quoted the same c£500 per side.
I went with the 3inch for flexibility… but then went and bought a HANS away.
3inch works fine with HANS just have to adjust the webbing over the shoulder groove properly. Whereas the 2inch just drops on easily.

If you have purchased the car recently you should try to push for them to install, but it will likely then be at their leisure rather than your convenience… so a booking might be far away, but that was my experience with HQ.
In the end I was able to get it done another route.
