Single engined piston aeroplane, elipitical wings, underneath painted white with D-day wing stripes, blue roundels with white stars. Definitely no red anywhere. I can only say what I saw. I wouldn't have bothered posting if I didn't think it was unusual.
As I say it didn't sound instantly recognisable as a Merlin but that may have been as it was cruising at a constant low throttle.

Almost certainly it was the P-47 seen by OP, as Nellie flew from Bournemouth to Northern Ireland yesterday morning, and took a route across Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Cheshire and up towards Blackpool and then across to NI.Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
