Having just read the Spiders thread, and got a bit creeped out, I thought I'd ask what irrational fears you lot have?

1: Heights/flying = thinking about it makes my goolies jingle.:yikes:
2: Peaches = that....skin.....just....doesn't....make sense. WHY? WHHYYYYIIIEEEE, the FUR!!!!!:weeping:
3: Spiders and all crawly things - it's how they move.:smash:

1. Governments with dodgy ideologies getting into power.

2. Just going about my business then being subject to a horrible injury/murder.

3. Wasps stinging my eyeballs.

Being scared of heights and spiders are survival instincts that ensured your ancestors didn't fall off cliffs or be bitten by a black widow.

However, your fear of peaches has stumped me. Or was there once, in prehistoric times, a sabre-toothed killer peach?

Any ants, bees, wasps and hornets that can bite/sting. Not just a normal fear of pain, but a severely irrational terror.

What, silence? I've never heard cotton wool making a noise. It's not like the nurses have to tell it to be quiet. Maybe Lois knows better?

How about Chalk under your fingernails. Now that makes my bits shrivel!

Try chewing cotton wool.

How about that creaking sound that flying birds make?

How about chewing tin foil on your fillings! I hate it when you get a bit on a nice chunk of chocolate without noticing.

Dogs barking. I'm fine around dogs but as soon as they bark I'm gone...

1) Heights - lack thereof.
2) Large, dead spiders who appear to have been
killed and sucked dry by other, larger spiders.
3) See (2). Generally the female of the arachnoid species, I understand.

Heights, I can feel myself getting nervous near the edge of a perfectly well fenced in multi storey. Im my case it's not irrational, I leant on the wall of a hotel in Tenerrife when I waas about ten storeys up and it started to collapse Playa Honda if anyone's heard of it

Strangely, I can fly in a microlight at 5K feet all day and feel totally relaxed What's all that about then?

This recalls to me a sight I have never wanted to recount, but will for the benefit of all arachnophobic Ph'ers.

I Once decided to pull up - strip and re-lay the original floorboards in our old house. I had got so far with the removal when I could see "something" hanging from the underneath of the next floorboard. On closer (but not too close!) examination I made out the carcass of a spider that was hanging from all of it's 5-6" legs, the body extending it to another 4" - I ask you to imagine a spider in the UK that is from arse to outstretched leg that is 10"

Needless to say 1 floorboard looks slightly rougher than the rest, and we moved some few months later!

Cheers

Paul

Enclosed spaces. I'm so bad I end up in panic attacks when working under the car and had a major panic attack whilst stuck in the small seat of a bus with the window pillar beside my head (I made the bus driver stop and I walked the 5miles home).

Crocodiles absolutely terrify me. Completely and utterly petrify me. It's not irrational fear either - those ers can run very damned quickly, can swim bloody quick and you don't loose them in turns. I will never, ever, ever be able to go near a croc, aligator or anything like that. I don't have a problem with lizards, just when the lizard is bigger than me. I'm not bad with images, but I cannot watch a tv slot or movie with Crocs in without going pure white and been fairly ill (although stupidly I agreed to see that Steve Irwin film when it was released).

This freaked me out - I read it in some dodgy medical journal some years ago, and this happened in Spain, not Rwanda or Iraq or somewhere equally hideous. They looked at coffins that had to be exhumed for some reason or other, and found scratch marks on the inside in FORTY PERCENT of them!!!!

Sleep well...

1)Loss of an eye. Devastating.

2) Amputation of diseased limb - I had a tumour that had to be cut out about 5 years ago, I was lucky it was caught in time.

3) Circumcision. Just don't believe in it. I have nightmares that our kid due in December is going to be snatched from us at the hospital and circumcised. They do it to around 80% of the US male newborns nowadays.
