Audio CD & Films DVD ripping - Which software to use?
Discussion
Hi,
I've decided to convert my collection of perhaps 2500+ audio CD's to digital files and store on a recently purchased 10TB hard drive. Similarly, perhaps 300+ film DVD's I'll want to rip and store as well. Looking for recommendations on good software to use - it's been perhaps 10+ years since I last used Nero, is that title still one of the better ones?
Cheers, Dennis!

For CDs there is nothing better than dBPowerAmp https://www.dbpoweramp.com/cd-ripper.htm It's not free but it worth the cost. Rip to lossless FLAC files and you can archive the CD collection.
For DVD and Blu-Ray I use MakeMKV https://www.makemkv.com/ Free whilst it's in beta, which it has been forever. This will rip the film without any compression to a .mkv container file. You can select which sound tracks etc. you want (i.e. get rid of all the foreign ones). If you want to maintain the menu structure, extras etc. on a DVD then you can rip it in it's entirety to an ISO. Not sure what the best software to do that is these days. No idea if this is achievable with a Blu-Ray or not.

As said, MakeMKV and handbrake for the films.
Unless you have some seriously obscure albums, would a Spotify subscription not be a better use of your time? 2500 disks is going to take a while!!

You make a very good point

I did about 300 CDs a while back. I think it took me about 3-4 days for several hours a day getting up every couple of minutes. You make a very good point
I started off with dbpoweramp but it wouldn't stick to the bitrate I was inputting so I binned it.
I would echo the comments about DBpoweramp, Makemkv & Handbrake. I use Foobar2000 to convert CDs (but i believe DBpoweramp can also do it. (Rip your CDs into a lossless format then convert, if required, to play on other devices. Keep the lossless masters.)
It took me several weeks to rip my ~700 CD collection a few years ago. Granted, this was done on a slow PC but it will still take a long time. **Take good backups** both during and after the ripping process**

Your storage gained weight and you lost some
