The weekend trip (Switzerland)
Discussion
Hi all,
First post so be gentle ! long time lurker
I thought I would share some pictures from my weekend away on the bike. I took myself off and did some of the passes which were stunning.
Now before we start I have read that Switzerland divides opinions to their policing of speed but lets not get into that!
As a newish rider the scenery is amazing the roads good which meant I had a whole weekend of fun!
I did them in the following order with an overnight stay as its a 3hour ride from home to reach Grimsel pass.
Jaun pass
Grimsel Pass
Susten Pass
Grimsel (again for the hotel)
Grimsel (yes again)
Brunig pass
panoramastrasse
Gurnigel Pass
Home
A stop at lake Thun for refreshment-

The bike packed up near the top of Grimsel.

Totesee lake at the very top of Grimsel

A Marmot on the Furka -

The view from the Furka.

Finishing with well earned beer at the hotel!

Found this in my room, and yes that a full sized wine glass!

And finally the Panoramastrasse.

The scenery is epic, and if you get a chance to drive/ride it you should.

It's a beautiful country, more pricey than it used to be, I worked out there for weeks and weeks at a time about 5 to10 yrs ago and always drove down.
Speeding IS a big issue and became more so, with sneaky cameras etc, certainly don't take the piss with speed, but even a few k's over will see you in trouble and possible expense.
But it is a great place to visit, last time I went i was in a motorhome and no chance of speeding in that!
Are based in Switzerland? I used to have three clients all in Fribourg so based myself in Murten on the lake!

I am yes, I moved here 3 years ago and must say so far so good ! (apart from my French). I have adjusted to the Swiss way after getting 3 fines in 3 weeks when I first moved here (they were small not like the 44T one!). I ride within the limits (ish) you learn where they like to be to get you, just ride sensibly and enjoy the scenery :-)Speeding IS a big issue and became more so, with sneaky cameras etc, certainly don't take the piss with speed, but even a few k's over will see you in trouble and possible expense.

I toured there last year and personally had no issues with police although there were quite a few laser type speed cameras we see as you went into town
We did some of the ride you did and I agree its simply an amazing place. Nothing was better for us than sitting at the end of a road where a few pubs were at lunch having a cold beer and looking in the distance at some of the scenery
I also had a moment with a cow...

Marmots on Sustenpass are cute, aren't they? :-)
Next time I suggest you also ride over Nufenenpass.
My favourite route, coming from Zürich, is Gotthardpass - Nufenenpass - Grimselpass - cross over (also some hairpins here) to Meiringen for coffee/merengue at Fruttal Bäckerei, then backtrack and go over Sustenpass back to Zürich (along the Vierwaldstättersee through Brunnen).
That's about 360km all in all.
44T got off easy. If they were living in CH they would have suffered much more and not only in monetary terms.
