Nasty Little Misfire
Discussion
Driving home today and suddenly got a nasty misfire.Only thing I can see under the bonnet is the Vacuum Advance mechanism has come loose from the dissie. Don't have an allen key to fit so have tightened as much as poss by hand.Mis fire stopped for now, Is this likely to be the cause or is it an as well as? Peter
Mine was running a little rough a few weeks ago. Somebody on here suggested I checked that the vacuum advance module was fixed properly. It was pretty much hanging off. I tightened the screws and the problem went away. From memory you need a number 20 TORX bit. The one at the back is a swine to get to.

Top photo, just below the distributor cap (to the left of the blue HT leads), the black rubber circular thing.
At least I think thats it, I'd like to be corrected as I'm a novice at car engines.

Could someone tell me what/where the vacuum advance thingy is? Mines got a mis-fire at 26-2800 RPM and I've been through all the ususal checks to no avail. Sounds like this may also be an avenue to check.
Look for the thin black pipe coming off the plenum (big silver thing with '400'/'450'/'500' etc on the top). Follow it through to the thingy that looks a bit like a flying saucer (it's towards the offside of the dizzy (the dizzy's the big rubber bit with HT leads coming out of it) - that's the vac advance.
Sorry if those instructions seem a bit numpty...
