Hi,
I viewed another car 14 plate (main dealer again) and this time I found a very small amount of rust on the rear arch. A stone at some point has obviously penetrated the paint and the last owner has just left it hence the rust.

I mentioned this to the dealer and they are happy to sort it out as part of the deal (by sanding, treating and repainting)
Do you think the fix is adequate or would this put you off?
The car is not cheap however the spec of the car is quite hard to come by hence being tempted by it still.
Thanks.

I'd be double checking to make sure it wasn't a sign of accident damage. If I was satisfied it was as you say, then no I wouldn't be put off. I bought a 2010 Focus ST which had some slight bubbling where the rear arch meets the bumper, very common problem. Dealer agreed to sort it and 2 and half years later it's still fine and unnoticeable. For me, it was the lack of standard examples in a specific spec that made me continue with this car and it turned out to be a wise choice as I've had zero problems with it.

If it is a main dealer surely they would also guarantee the work? In which case personally I'd be fine with it, especially if the car and spec is exactly what you're after.

Yes no sign off it being in a accident, HPI clear, lines seem to match, paintwork seems good overall.

Heres a picture of the rust -

I guess so, something I would need to ask if I go forward with it.

What is it and what is about the spec that makes it desirable?

I'd be fine with the dealer rectifying this it's obvious a stone has damaged it.

From that photo, wouldn't bother me in the slightest, clearly just a stone being flicked up and a decent dealer should be able to resolve that easily.

Thought thread might be about a Nurburgring sticker.

OP that looks fair enough and as long as dealer sorts and offers a warranty of 12 months or so on the repair should be fine, right?

It would put me off, but i've spent a lot of years and money chasing rust on JDM cars.

My concern about having the dealer rectify it would be the quality of the repair. Unless that is properly taken back to bare metal, and zinc primed etc... it will almost certainly be back. Even then it's no guarantee.

I've had rust start to come back through anywhere from 6 months to 2 years after a "repair" and paint.

Unless its cheap, i personally would walk away, but like I say, I've chased rust on rare Jap stuff for years, and it gets tedious and expensive, and is difficult to get rid of.
