Hi,

We need a bit more room and a Macan seems to fit the bill... I initially looked at new, but think I'll settle on a used (pre-facelift) version and am currently looking at S, GTS or Turbos.

I have a couple of questions which I've not been able to answer online and was hoping the PH hive mind could help answer....

I'm assuming the Turbo is probably a little more comfortable than the GTS in terms of ride, with the GTS being lowered - is that fair?

Is air-suspension worth holding out for? I'm looking for a comfortable ride which can be flicked into sport mode when I'm on my own... I know PASM does this, but does air go even further?

What is Porsche Connect +?! Do you get apple carplay with it as standard?

What is the security like? I was somewhat scared off an RS4 as the lowlife scum seem to covet them and arent afraid to kick the odd front door in for the keys... I'm assuming the Macan isnt as sought after in that way?

The S, GTS and Turbo all seem to get within 2 or 3 MPG of each other... again - does that sound right? Does anybody have any experience of 'real world' Turbo mpg (not a major worry, but will grate eventually if it's silly... luckily I don't commute by car, but we do a few short trips in traffic as well as longer motorway journeys to visit relatives/holidays)

Finally - I've never bought a Porsche before... do the dealers have the ability/will to haggle a bit or is the price generally fixed?

Thanks in advance

Awaiting answers as seriously considering switching the family BMW X5 X40D for a Macan and whilst I fancied a Diesel as the practical choice the heart says a GTS or Turbo and my wife says she doesn't want a Diesel next time around....

My wife is similar on the Diesel front... but I do think now momentum is gathering against oil burners in the cities, the extra depreciation would likely outweigh the lower MPG... Frankly, its nice that she is backing up my man-maths with her own logic - never had that before!

I’ve got a Turbo Performance Pack which has the GTS suspension...mine has AIR PASM and 21” wheels. I think the ride is excellent in terms of comfort, it’s definitely better than our Cayenne which also has AIR PASM and 21” wheels. It’s not FFRR warty but it also isn’t a barge. MPG is mid 20’s which given the performance on tap is excellent.

Apple Car Play was standard. Porsche Connect details here https://www.porsche.com/uk/connect/

In this market dealers will haggle without a doubt although GTS is very popular so probably hardest to haggle on.

They;re great cars, love the Turbo PP. I think it’s the best daily driver Porsche makes....really comfortable but able to be pushed down a country lane in a way it just shouldn’t be able to be.

My daily driver is a macan gts, couldn’t ask for a nicer daily driver.

Gts or turbo you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve owned and enjoyed a GTS for 3 years. To answer your questions:

I'm assuming the Turbo is probably a little more comfortable than the GTS.

> Pretty marginal. My GTS rides really well even without air suspension. It can get a bit wallowy when pushed so I’f go for the lowest ride height possible.

Is air-suspension worth holding out for?

> I’d say it’s not a deal breaker. It’s nice but also something extra to go wrong.

What is Porsche Connect +?! Do you get apple carplay with it as standard?

> I never used porsche connect but use Carplay all the time

What is the security like?

> sorry, don’t know. Haven’t heard of issues and most dont have keyless entry.

The S, GTS and Turbo all seem to get within 2 or 3 MPG of each other... again - does that sound right?

> GTS economy is poor. 22 average and only 26-27 on a carefully driven longer run. I’d heard the Turbo is much the same.

Another factor is popularity. I see about equal numbers of S and GTS but Turbos are rarer. The Turbo is only 10% faster so pretty marginal but the exclusivity might be good for residuals.

I’ve had my gts two and a half years and easily get 25 mpg to 26mpg as an average, I wouldn’t say that’s bad considering its size and speed. It shocks most when you give it the gas in sport.

I bought a Macan GTS in May 2018, and ended up p/x as part of a deal for a GT3 last month (huge fking mistake, which I’ll post about at a later date, once the dust has settled). Suffice to say, I really miss the Macan, and only let it go because the residuals were so good.

It was the best all rounder I’ve ever driven. One minute it’s a motorway cruiser, and as comfortable as anything, the next minute it’s defying physics through corners on a twisty B road. And it leaves most unsuspecting hot hatches and executive saloons for dead at the lights when launched.

In terms of mpg, mine was more often than not in sport (but rarely in sport plus), and I was lucky to get much over 20mpg. However, you can get more economy out of them than that.

Anyway, I paid a deposit on a new Macan Turbo on Friday and finalised my spec today, delivery before the end of October. I never want to be without one again....
I would be very interested to here why changing the macan gts for a gt3. I’m getting rid of my macan gts to get a new gt4 which I plan to use as my daily...

You’re going to end up with the ideal Porsche two car garage in my opinion (as it’s what I have) Macan and GT3. Amazed you can order and spec a Macan Turbo and get delivery inside two months. Clearly

Back when I was looking at getting a Macan 2 years ago, the Turbo had the shortest delivery times quoted. From memory, the GTS then was pretty much unobtainium, with the diesel next longest in wait times due to popularity, then the petrol S. At the time I was quoted 4 months for a Turbo, compared to double that for a SD or S.

I would think with the new Turbo just announced, most OPC's will have a near build slot for a demo car should they choose to, but will give that up for a customer car quite happily if not many have walked through the door in past few weeks asking about a new Turbo!

Thanks for the comments - all really helpful.

We're on the search for a turbo or GTS -

PASM (Air would be a bit of a deal clincher)
Reversing camera or surround view
Connect plus (so we get carplay and the later screen/PCM)
Panoramic roof
Roof rails

Not in red/light blue and I'm not hugely bothered by sports chrono... I'm no fan of the dash clock and I think you can retrofit the button/software pretty sensibly.

I've seen a white one which ticks all my boxes, but haven't had a white car before and always thought a white 4x4 was a bit... naff. Can anybody convince me otherwise?!

Solid white or the metallic white?

You couldn't pay me to own one in solid white (which you can add solid and metallic black, and any shade of grey to the same list)

Solid. I'm much the same as you - the car works aside from the colour,,, probably why it's still available and not more expensive.

Bought a 2017 Turbo with £17k of options 3 months ago (daughter got too tall for back of 911), so happy to help

Good savings to be had vs list now. Plenty of GTS and Turbo around and I haggled on both.

Was after GTS or Turbo, both are great, overall I settled on a Turbo as the generally had higher spec (more comes as std) and the extra oomph was more noticeable than lower ride on GTS.

My turbo has 21" and air suspension. Air is quite useful, has lower mode, higher offroad mode and I think its 5mm lower as standard, boot could be dropped to aid loading.

Mine also had PSE which sounds great plus Chrono and PTV - both made it more GTS like.

I'm assuming the Turbo is probably a little more comfortable than the GTS in terms of ride, with the GTS being lowered - is that fair?

not much in it, both comfy

Is air-suspension worth holding out for? I'm looking for a comfortable ride which can be flicked into sport mode when I'm on my own... I know PASM does this, but does air go even further?

See above, its very nice to have

What is Porsche Connect +?! Do you get apple carplay with it as standard?

Apply carplay std from 2017, don;t bother with connect+ due to silly annual fees, I use a data only SIM to create the wifi hotspot

The S, GTS and Turbo all seem to get within 2 or 3 MPG of each other... again - does that sound right?

yes no difference really - I get 25 on motorway

Finally - I've never bought a Porsche before... do the dealers have the ability/will to haggle a bit or is the price generally fixed?

Defo haggle, OPC came down 2.5k on one car, I bought privately off 1 of the 2 private sellers who priced properly, many I gave up on as they were after OPC money

I'm on my third Macan (second GTS) and had varied spec on each.

I can't help posting pics off the current one as I I like to share and I've answered what I can below.

- Not driven a Turbo but all mine have been very comfortable but air is slightly better than PASM on it's own.

See above

- As others have said Car Play was standard with Connect+ from 2017 and I use it all the time with Waze

What is the security like? I was somewhat scared off an RS4 as the lowlife scum seem to covet them and arent afraid to kick the odd front door in for the keys... I'm assuming the Macan isn't as sought after in that way?
- Never had a problem but then I've never had or wanted comfort access

The S, GTS and Turbo all seem to get within 2 or 3 MPG of each other... again - does that sound right? Does anybody have any experience of 'real world' Turbo mpg (not a major worry, but will grate eventually if it's silly... luckily I don't commute by car, but we do a few short trips in traffic as well as longer motorway journeys to visit relatives/holidays)
- Never really check the economy but on the odd occasion I have its usually around 22-23mpg

Finally - I've never bought a Porsche before... do the dealers have the ability/will to haggle a bit or is the price generally fixed?
- Always haggle - start with money and finish with freebies from the shop,

Thanks in advance

Looks like it - certainly stands out!

I chose a diesel over GTS when I compared to used examples. I wish mine had air suspension as it does roll a fair bit. Fine on my own, but passengers notice if I'm pushing on!

Not sure I could have a car that does sub-25mpg as a daily (I get about 35mpg); the range as much as anything would irritate me. For me, diesels suit these kind of cars and I'm perfectly happy with the performance a daily family car.

Thanks for all of your help.

A quick update - Ive put a deposit on a late 2016 Silver GTS - it has Air and the full GTS interior and is in my preferred colour (silver or black) and a few other goodies inside. Importantly (and perhaps controversially) it has roof bars which I wanted. I had to trade off bose and reversing camera which it doesnt have... I dont listen to the stereo much when I drive so bose would have been just 'because' and I dont have a reversing camera now and do ok... hopefully that's not an expensive error.

I couldnt do much of a deal - no discount (it was fresh in when I enquired and apparently they had lots of interest), but I did wangle 2 silverstone days.

Just working out if to have them do the ceramic coat and paint correction now.

Pics when I take delivery.

Just under 48k. Seems about the level of the cheapest in the network - some of the higher priced cars looked nice, but I couldn't shake the feeling that a few of them had sat around for ages.
