Hi all

I have a 2009 Z4 which has developed a rotational metallic clicking noise, which increases/decreases with speed. After many changes including tyres, checking brakes and for grit behind the discs, replacing front shocks (one leaked anyway), tracking, balancing it is still there and slowly getting worse.

I have taken the car to a specialist for the above, and to a transmission specialist who could hear it but said they couldnt do anything as it is the DCT variant and cant get spares so i have to go to BMW. I have just booked a slot with Dick Lovett to have an initial look but wondered if anyone has had anything similar. Specialist looked in detail at it an found the only noise using a stethoscope when up on the ramp was from the back end of the box, possibly an output bearing.

Bristol Transmissions have never had one of these boxes in before and referred me to BMW, Gloucester Rd Gearboxes wouldnt even look at it. Ive only had it since March so hoping not to have to replace the whole box, but looking more likely. From a bit of research apparently these are sealed boxes, looks like there could have been a historical leak of some sort, but no drips. Mileage is relatively low at 57k

Any suggestions welcome and appreciated. Even if its contacts for a recon 7 speed DCT box.

I seriously doubt you'll find such a thing from any source in UK.

It will be a new one from BMW likely to be the only option, other than taking a chance on finding one out of a BMW breakers, and getting it swapped by an indie. But, then you may have issues finding a good enough indie to be able to code a DCT from another car, if that needs doing?

Not seen anything on any BMW forums yet about DCT box swaps etc., but then I've not been looking to far in that regard in past years or 2 since selling my DCT 135i.

Thanks, I suspected as much, I haven't had anyone say they have had one in for repair at all yet!
