After a normal drive into town today (11 miles) the "Low Power Mode' warning came on. I parked up and checked that all dials were normal and then switched off. After about 10 minutes I started the car up and all was well, again with all dials and warning lights normal.

The warning lit up again after 300 yards so I parked up again and awaited recovery. I noticed that the fans were not coming on as they usually do after a (less than spirited) drive.

My initial thoughts are that the fans have stopped working for some reason rather than anything catastrophic. (hopefully a fuse or sensor ?)
My car is a 2009 997.2 Carrera 2S.

The car is full of oil and was serviced about 1000 miles ago.

Any comment/advice would be gratefully received before I talk to my trusted indy tomorrow.

'Reduced power mode'? Usually associated with transmission or engine management issues; PDK? could be a sensor or transmission fault. (Assuming it is PDK!!)
Could also be related to engine - valve lift solenoid or coil pack issues.......

OK got the fault codes now and after a bit of googling this is the situation:

P1021 Injector cylinder 2 shorting to ground

P1024 Fuel High Pressure Too High After Engine Off

P1026 High Pressure Fuel Pump

HPFP was the subject of a recall in 20011 (check with VIN code)

Replacing the fuel pump isn't that bad at all apparently, especially on the 997.2. If you are decently mechanically inclined, you can do it. Easy to get to, barely have to jack the car up. I think it's about 6 bolts, and two high pressure fuel line nuts, one electrical connector. I think the coolant line may need to come out as well but that is easy too. one bolt and two o-rings. reverse install and refill with coolant.

Some people have noted that the water pump should be replaced at the same time as the HPFP as it can tend to leak after the serpentine belt is replaced.
