Suggests 9.7 due update soon?

There is an Apple event in a few days time but probably phone and watch stuff. Sometimes another hardware event pops up in October.

Edit. Looking at it, the 9.7 is long in the tooth compared to the air.

Checks crystal ball....... nah, don't work with Apple wink

I have a Mac and iPad up for renewal at some point soon, I would be happy with the Air now as a replacement, my current Air is 2013 and just stopped getting a new OS. Of course that is me for my needs.

The new one has the newer A12 chip. However if I were in no rush I might wait past September 10 (possible october) to see what may be announced.

Read down the page. It is all a guess and nothing may be announced.

Of course need and pocket dependent. I browse and play a few games on one. I don't edit pics or anything.

Personally I get the top chip etc. as I can reliable say it will be in use for some years.

Also, handy comparison.

Looks like the Apple pen first gen not second gen with iPads unless you get the iPad pro?

I own both of these so hopefully I can be of some help.

The Air 3 has a noticeably bigger screen, 9.7 vs 10.5 doesn't sound much but side by side it is obvious how different it is.

The main difference is the screen which is laminated on the Air. The 2018 model shows some flex when you press it and shows more reflections. The Air has a more solid screen with an anti reflection layer.

The A10 v A12 speed isn't noticeable day to day so not really an issue and the cameras on both are hardly groundbreaking although if you are using the front facing camera the Air has a much better one than the 2018 iPad.

If both were next to each other, I would pick the Air first due to it being better overall but if the 2018 was much cheaper then I would be happy with that.

If you need the extra storage and don't want to fork out the extra few pounds go for the 2018 iPad. If you want an extra year of IOS updates and can manage with 64GB, go with the Air.
