My wife was in her car in at red lights in, a car seemingly reversed into her from the opposite side of the road damaging the front bumper, she had no where to go. It turned out there was no one in the car, and the silly bint had left her handbrake off , while , I assume , settling a bill for her new tyres and other work (the tyres had the cords showing, yes I checked the MOT).

I spoke to her at the time and said I'm going through insurance, forget the balava of getting a quote, she also admitted liability.

Anyway, between the accident and my wife returning home (she was visiting her parents) my wife convinced me to get a quote , reluctantly I did and it came to a conservative estimate for £800. The OP was shocked at this, and put the the phone down.

We reported this to our insurance company, who have been great (Admiral) , but here's the what I'm curious about. In between the accident and me getting a quote, she cancelled her insurance (I checked AskMid a couple of days after the accident), and the OP also stated that she cancelled her insurance when I rang her, which is what prompted me to check.
Admiral said, no issues, no liability , they will go through her previous insurance company, our car is repaired but what happens to the other party now? Is her insurance company going to claim back off her?

Thanks

It doesn't really matter.

Just leave it to your insurer to sort out as that is what you pay them for.

Not really sure why your bothered, the company she was insured with and presumably had paid for at the time of the accident will be the one that pays for your claim. Why would you think they would try and claim the costs back from her because she has since cancelled her insurance, l doubt if much money was returned with cancellation fees etc and her renewal may have been coming up soon. Without the facts and knowing the terms of her policy you will probably never know

Well her insurer will only cancel the policy from the time she asked them to, so it was still in force when the accident occurred.

So your insurer should be able to recover their costs.

As to her refund, etc. that doesn't matter to you - it's something for her insurer to sort out with her.

I'm just curious, especially as the impression I got is that she tried to pull a fast one.

Seems highly stupid for the OP to cancel insurance AFTER having had an accident...she won’t get ANY money back AIUI and she now has a car that’s uninsured. She might as well have let the insurance policy run its course.

She may have thought she was trying to avoid paying out at all! Or that by cancelling the policy you wouldn't be able to claim.

Some people are not very smart.

Or she lied in order to take out the policy and doesn't want to be found out.

Which is what I suspect, she is not very smart and tried to pull a fast one.

The OP might be right to be concerned as insurance companies are not strangers to fraud or cheating. The fact the other lady cancelled her insurance hours after an accident will flag the need for her insurers to investigate.

Now yes, it could well be the other lady works on the assumption cancelling the insurance means no-one can claim against her at all. In that case, no need to worry at all.

However, if she has lied to get cover it could well be her insurers now work on that and, as they know they will have to pay up, find ways to invalidate her cover at the time of the accident.

The problem then for the OP is their insurers don't give a damn about anything but if they can get all their costs back.

If they cannot because the other party has her cover taken away or reduced, the NCD is lost.

I was hit at a red light by an uninsured driver, I photographed them as well the damage.

my insurance paid up and sued the driver and was awarded 2k a couple of years later and my claim was marked no fault

Made no difference my premium still went up exactly the same as if I had a fault claim ...

Leave it to the insurers.

Don't worry about it!

My no fault claim made no difference to my renewal or my wife’s policy where I am a named driver. Every case is different, as has been said on here many times, many factors involved, age location etc

It's of no relevance. She was insured at the time of the collision that's all that counts. What difference does it make if she cancelles the insurance 1 hour after the collision or 6 months. None.
