79p per BHP, Shedding in an Audi TT

I dont know where to start here but seeing this is PH and we love a shed so here goes.......
I have a problem in that I can’t pass on a bargain, I am always looking for something and when this popped up on good old Gumtree for £700 I had emailed the chap within minutes of seeing it.
I popped out to see it, found out it had more issues than first anticipated. After some haggling, selling a set of wheels that were included in the sale, this is what £350 has got me.
A 225bhp BAM engined TT roadster
Looks not bad, but never has the phrase “it is what it is” been more apt. It’s a shed.
However, not to be outdone and thinking there’s a decent car there, looking through the history there’s evidence it’s clearly been looked after up until recently. Even a receipt for a remap so it’s roughly running between 265-275bhp.
I booked it in for an MOT just to see what i was dealing with. It spewed its power steering fluid all over the garage car park when I dropped it off due to a hose splitting, we were not off to a great start.
It then naturally failed............
Not THAT bad.
I got a mate to fashion up a power steering hose from some hydraulic pipes, the coil overs that were on it were coming off regardless as they were horrific so I’d picked up some original suspension just after the purchase of the car.
Really it’s needing the emissions sorted, which I’ve got replacement cats for and a rear Caliper, not at all catastrophic.
I’ve made a start with the repairs. The coil overs are off, but rain has interrupted play yet again on refitting the stock suspension, the power steering hose has been fitted and that’s sorted. Hoping to have the rest of the jobs completed over the course of the week then get it motd
Once it’s tested I’ll give it a full service, replace vacuum hoses, breather hoses and do the timing belt and water pump.

Getting the coilovers off hasn't improved things that much?meehaja said:

Absolute steal that, love em or loathe em, you can't get much faster with 4 wheels for the money.

It’s cost a little more to get to the point it’s at now but vfm is fantastic
Lucky it wasn’t picked up by someone wanting a BAM into a early Golf for such a cheap price.
Had a couple of friends with 1.8T mk2’s back in the day & they made for bit of a weapon done properly. No need to go mega HP when the base car is little over a tonne too....
Never been convinced by TT’s/S3’s as a driving experience but certainly a bargain if the issues are correctable on a sensible budget

I had a Misano red 225 roadster and in standard format they are pretty feeble. I had mine some years and did a LOT to it.
The PCV system leaks like a sieve and is a good place to start. I replaced the complete set of PCV hoses on mine and it made a noticeable difference in performance.
The handling as standard is dire, I changed ARB's and had Defcon bushes fitted and along with coilovers and a remap, it turned it into a 5.6s 0-60mph weapon.

Funny you mention that, I’ve been offered a Mk3 GTI locally with a BAM engine conversion carried out years ago for little money. It’s been through the wars over the last few years but it was a best friends father that built it with a money no object approach, the TT may make way for this. Had a couple of friends with 1.8T mk2’s back in the day & they made for bit of a weapon done properly. No need to go mega HP when the base car is little over a tonne too....

That car is a big project though, and money isn’t exactly plentiful for such at the minute but it seems too good to pass up

The car in question is a yellow Colour Concept, built by a well known (not sure if it’s for all the right reasons) tuner from around 10 years ago.
It’s fitted with a BAM/AGU hybrid engine, forged internals, IHI turbo, APR inlet, TDI box with quaife diff etc. All drive by wire too. Sure if memory serves me correctly it was making around 375bhp.
It’s also in a bit of a mess I just hope it’s not too far gone.
Alas I need to finish the TT first

I Spent a whole bit of time doing the mot repairs, only for it to fail again on a bolt holding the rear strut. I took the car to work and replaced said bolt and duly returned the car to the mot station at which point the front flexi in the down pipe decided to split. Game over and it’s been sold on as it was. Never been so glad to get rid of a car
