Hi everyone,

New user hereand owner of a new Amarok. I've decided to have a look underneath the chassis to have a good look around.

As I was towards the diff at the back I just happened to scrape my belt against the bottom and was surprised that I was covered in a thick black grease like substance.

I was wondering what this was?

Is it an underseal and if so, do I need to replace what came off with a specific type? Or is it just in fact .. grease? It was quite soft and very much a grease-like consistency but I'm not sure why it would be on the bottom of the diff outside.

I also thought that the new Amaroks would be galvanized and so wouldn't need an underseal. Very confused...

It's also still under warranty so I need to be careful what I do with it.

Cheers.

Whether it is galvanized or not would not mean it doesn't need underseal, they work hand-in-hand with each other & may well have both.

Having said that it is possible that what you have found could be underseal or could be grease.

If it is brand new it could be a wax-like substance that is used to protect cars in transport to their point of sale that hasn't been fully cleaned off.

Thanks for the response.

I had another look under there and took some photos. I'm pretty sure it is underseal now as it's all over the underside of the chassis. So you were right all along smile

Is there any particular brand/type of underseal I should use or would a tin of Waxoyl and a brush be the best way forwards? The vehicle is still under warranty.

Thanks.
