I'm going to have to give the GT3 a proper clean soon and I'd like to treat her right.

I'm not brave enough to use a clay bar, but would like to try using snow foam. I want to avoid using anything that might damage or discolour the plastics and the black alloys etc.

My cleaning regime has been quite basic until now.

So, questions for those who wash their GT3 themselves,

- what snowfoam do you recommend? (I'd use it with an attachment for my Karcher)

- sponge? or mitt? which one? (I've used Zymol sponges for years, but wonder if there is something better to use)

- shampoo? (Again, I've used Megs NXT for years)

- wheel cleaning fluid and brushes? (Never had matte black wheels and don't want to damage them)

- microfibres? (Mine are Sonus, and they're getting on a bit and ineffective.)

1: it's not a her, it's a car made of metal and stuff, now that's out the way.

2: snow foam, forget it , pointless crap imho.

3: Use a mit

4: buy some Magma and spay the whole car with it (ok the painted bits and wheels) after a basic wash.

5: wash off and repeat with Magma

6: wash with the shampoo you like, every one finds one they like.

8: invest in a tar remover

9: buy some good drying towels.

10: ceramic coat your wheels after washing I use c5 wheel armor.

9: add a real wax if you are not a PPF freak and the car will pop and feel smooth and silky after the Manga treatment.

doing the magma routine, I have not used clay for 5 or 6 years I would say or snow foam, both seem to take time and clay if not used right adds swirls.
Magma , you don't touch the car so no swirls, the product does the work.

I use concours Waz from Zymol,a bit of a treat but adds a protecton layer and you can layer it up with 3 coats. Autoglym wax is a great product and costs £30.

I installed a softwater device and that's made life easy also inc for the OH around the house.

you can ceramic coat your car but they look a bit fake to me, I don't really like the finish of ceramic's on paint, but if you want that fake untra shiny look they are handy and now you can buy self use coatings. If you have black I would get a ceramic coating done.

Snow foam, yet to use but I do have to hand Autoglym PH Neutral. Use their mitts and cloths too. Awesome stuff.

:-( I think the Autoglym shampoo is one of their worse products...

I did use Zymol shampoo for years but they stopped the one I used which was for sale at Halfords, I use Meguiars NXT , it's cheap and does what it needs to do with very little product, it's 20x better than Autoglym stuff which I think is maybe the worse shampoo on the market !!

I forget to add I also use Valet Pro - Bilberry Wheel Cleaner, you can make it as strong as you like or water it right down if you have PCCB's , it's the best wheel cleaner imo, their wheel brushes are great also for the corners if you have been lazy and not done a wheel wash for months.

I like most autoglym products, but not the shampoo...

I did not want to go into shamppo, hence I said buy the one you like, as every one finds a shampoo they like, just had to post about how bad imo the Autoglym stuff is.

Thanks for the info. Is the Magma stage just to remove iron? (like Iron X) (https://www.autoglym.com/magma)

Btw, your car is stunning!

Mine is GT silver - here's a (poor) photo:

cheers.

yep it's a iron remover, but my paints always super smooth, that with the odd tar spot remover is all I do.
any will do, I find Magma cheaper and at Halfords it's buy one get one 1/2 price this week, so I stocked up which makes me not scared to use a lot of it.

GT silver is a great colour and does suit Ceramic coats imo, they look great in red sunsets.

Try the Autoglym polar blast snow foam - great stuff.

For wheels, Bilt Hamber Autowheel is pretty hard to beat & also safe to use on paint for decontamination.

Finish off with Sonax Brilliant shine detailer.

Magma is pretty much the same as Liquid clay from the professional range which is £40ish for 5 litres.

The key thing is removing detritus before you wash. Valet Pro snow foam among others works well for this. Then use the 2 bucket method to avoid the dreaded swirl marks.

Get thee to detailing world uk plenty of decent guides there written by those who detail for a living

Buying the product is the easy bit. Doing the graft to make it pay off is the hard bit.

To achieve a half decent finish you really should clay bar

Anyone got a recommendation for a mobile valet person/company that cover SE London? I've got 2,000 miles of French insects on the car and zero enthusiasm for removing them myself.

You don't get swirl marks if you don't wash it ... ?

As for insects, I ws mine when it has rained overnight ... insects are generally nicely soaked and I'm sorry to say, I happily use Autoglym Shampoo Conditioner.

But I did used to use washing up liquid ....

Rubbish, Clay is a fall out remover and does mark the paint, you then have to polish out how ever much slip you use.

Why do old school when we can now buy liquid spay on wash off fall out remover.

Not used clay bars for 6 or 7 years.

Search for Autoglym Magma. I picked some up today from Halfords as per D’s post.
Great stuff. I didn’t have much fall out from my paint but it was good in the small areas I sometimes miss on the wheels.
Overall best wash in a while... so that will be staying in the rotation.

It’s great isn’t it :-), I tend to only magma twice a year, but tend to find the rear ends needs it 4 times a year or if it starts to feel rough, I normally get loads and loads of fallout esp the rear, even my one trip to France last week in the Spyder, I did the rear on return and it was all purple. Remember to re wax or re do what ever top coat you have as it must strip any wax's off. Hence I only use it twice a year but really go for it, ie may be 3 times a go.

I used iron x back in the day and dragons breath, but both products really do stink bad.

Manna is best of the bad smells and I have tried about 5 brands.

I wonder if it’s ceramic coat friendly ? For the guys with coatings, it’s worth asking.

I’m picking up my car on Thursday and it’ll have a G-Tec ceramic coating applied by OPC.

I’ve never had ceramic coating on any car before; what’s the best method / product to clean it and avoid removing the coating?

Thanks
