Thninking of buying an x1 year 2011 may
100000 miles. Is it worth looking at something else as i have heard that thr timing chain on thr n47 isnr that great. If it has had an update on the timing chain will this cure any future problems?
Thanks guys, the link is in french but if you could give any info on it that would be great!!!

Not just the engine, you're into flaky front diffs at that mileage as well. You can do better if you just want a smallish 4x4.

The 318i with an early n43 is definitely one to avoid. Go for the n47 over that - chains can fail but not so often on a 2011 compared to earlier ones. Front props can also fail but again - fairly rare - easy and relatively inexpensive to replace if you do it pre emptively

2011 X1, the most reliable car we've ever owned (taken from circa 3 year old and 25k miles to 7 year old and nearly 80k miles). 2.0d X-Drive

Lexus IS300, Mondeo 1.8/2.0 Mark 4, Accord - plenty of decent reliable mid range stuff without getting involved in BMW or VAG crap. Of all the German stuff, the C Class Merc is probably the reliable one - the C220d etc isn't bad. E90's are just a financial black hole now.

Merc C220d from that era will get a cracked manifold at some point, not a nice job to get a new one swapped.
Injectors still leak on them too, but find someone who can reseat them in not too bad a job.
The W204 is now starting to get to the age where issues are sta

I don't agree about e90's being a black hole.
Just know what you're getting into.

I really liked our X1, if it had been an auto I would have kept it longer.
It is basically an E91 Touring with higher, softer suspension and larger tyres, so rides really nicely.

Updated chain will fix the issue - the last revision was in 2014 - the very same chain has been used in the latest B47 engine.
