My 2016 car is coming up to 21k miles and it needs the second oil service next month. This is £1050 and all BMW dealers are quoting the same price.

Does anyone know of an independent that can do this service and update the BMW service record held online. There is PSC of cheltenham who can do it but I was just curious if anyone knows of others?

Is this the service where they also replace the door struts and a bunch of other bits? Would explain some of the high price

Yes that is the service and to me a completely unnecessary one as my doors are fine......

Good to know BMR are able to service these, have you direct experience of them as a customer?

My 65 plate i8 is coming up to 20k miles and needs an oil II and inspection service this month. I’ve been quoted £480 inc vat from Hughes brothers who can update the service online/idrive as per dealer. I’m not changing the gas struts either as their fine, just been advised to change them when they go week. The drive belt will be checked on the day and changed if needed.

Whereabouts?

https://www.autoworksservices.co.uk/ in Swindon can do all the electronic service updates. Don't know how up to date they are with i8 servicing but great for M models

Main dealer did the updates on my wife's i8 today for free. Had a small rodent issue (!) where something had chewed a cable underneath linked to the cooling shut-off valve for the battery. All repaired and collected this afternoon. £119 all in. Was actually shocked by the price considering they're a main dealer. Probably just a 5cm length of cable needed replacing but even so. On the way home I noticed whatever update it had def. improved the gearbox. Seems much smoother now

I would warn you now the majority of people looking at an i8 will do some reading up and will know that does struts are due - a potential buyer doesn't really care if you think they are due, BMW says they are due to be replaced and thats it. For the sake of skimping 500 odd quid on such a car is utterly pointless.

Ps - only saying that with good intentions, of course its your car and your money

Thanks for the warning.

My quotes are now down into the eight hundreds for the service. BMW are taking the piss on these sort of cars and hoping that the customer is a sucker and will just hand over the money through fear or ignorance..

I don't care about the 'majority of people looking at an i8' as I have sold many Porsches/BMW's etc privately and I know the next potential buyer will be a trader looking up the history on the idrive.
