Sponsoring wedding through business
Discussion
For example person A is getting married to person B. Person A has a business. At the wedding there will be a lot of people who are in business with person A.
Person A decides to sponsor the wedding in return for business exposure eg business cards, product placement - thus becoming a business expense.
Is this possible?

Is it just me, or have just met the last of the true romantics For example person A is getting married to person B. Person A has a business. At the wedding there will be a lot of people who are in business with person A.

? MKA29, sorry no idea. But has the person proposing this broached the subject with the bride? Is he (and it must be a he) still attached to his knackers?

Yes and the bride agrees, as a reduced tax bill generally leads to more income to spend on shiny things to wear and other things brides like

Great. I was just imagining the interview without biscuits I'd have faced had I broached the topic.

Props to you both anyway!

You're not both from Yorkshire, by any chance, are you?

If HMRC challenged it, do you think they would consider you to be the main beneficiary? If so, it's unlikely to be allowed.
You cannot just use a business sponsorship to pay for personal items, and you're not allowed to be too close to the recipient of the sponsorship unless there are good reasons.

Other end of the island!

Wouldn't it be more traditional to get your wedding sponsorship from Cadbury and OK Magazine?
It would be if the aim was to be sponsored. But the aim in this case would be to benefit from a business/personal point of view, which i now know is not permitted Condi said:

Thank you, although it is a shame I can't say I'm surprised. Although I thought as there was a genuine case for a business expense, "Person A" and B would indeed still benefit. You cannot just use a business sponsorship to pay for personal items, and you're not allowed to be too close to the recipient of the sponsorship unless there are good reasons.

Of course it is. Person A decides to sponsor the wedding in return for business exposure eg business cards, product placement - thus becoming a business expense.
