Hi - new to Forum

I recently purchased a low mileage 635d Sport ('58) - low mileage, lovely spec - now shorter than designed as an idiot drove headlong into me - written off - bummer

Replacing with another BMW, but want to have a newer car - 435d GC (becuase I like the hatch/doors for ease) seems the choice for me, but before I sign on the dotted line this week, any supporting/dissenting voices. Car is TB Individual paint with most of the extras boxes ticked, including Adaptive Susp, MSport +, Camera, HUD etc.

Is there something else in the BMW Family I should consider? - I am afraid I discounted the 640d as I am not as keen on the styling (compared to my 635d), and I want something a little more agile/chuckable and wanted X Drive as I live in the middle of nowhere (previously in an S3 Audi). Maybe 535d or 335d Touring?

Not owned a modern BMW before, so welcome advice please.........

I've just gone from a 2004 E63 645 to a 2015 F32 430 (well, Alpina D4 but that's another story). The 4XX is smaller and lighter (by 1/2 a ton) than the 6XX. The size reduction is small enough to be noticeable but isn't a factor for me as I'm the only one in the car generally.

The tech is much better in the 4 series and pretty much all of it, except the Connected Drive app, is a must for me now. I thought the head up display was a gimmick but it's proved really useful.

Style wise the 4 series GC looks the best of the 4s.

3 & 5 series look good as touring and more useful again.

Other modern BMWs have less style imo.

Only driven a 420d cab, and that was a lard arsed lump of lard. No character whatsoever, just a bland blob. The bigger engine may bring the GC to life?

Thanks for those comments.

Should I be considering the 335d Touring do you think? I like the style of them, but have not explored them as a possibility.

Certainly the modern spec is what I am after, as I did find my 2008 536d a little too "old tech", wonderful as it was, for everyday use, having been used to a more modern car

You seem to like the coupe shape, so a 435d (Grand Coupe) seems a very good choice. I have the 335D Touring, due to dog transport, and I like fast(ish) estates, otherwise the Grand Coupe is probably the best looking of the 3/4 series. In any case, will be a significant step up in technology and pace, compared to your 635d.

It is a shame that you've discounted the 640d, the interior is a massive step up over the 4 series(which isn't difficult because that is what lets the 4 series down overall for me).

I'm a big fan of the 4GC though because I really like the way they look and the practicality of the hatch really appeals too. I think the 640d feels so much more special inside though(even better than the 5 series) and it is a more rare car as well.
