I have noticed a clunk when putting the liz into reverse whilst cold. Is it a case of TADTS?

After a quick drive, the reverse gear is selected without a hassle. Obviously my current solution is to reverse into the garage at night so I am pointing the right way in the morning.

This has raised another problem though, everytime I open the garage door with the the car facing me I manage to get the door half way open before the alarm goes off. Rather sensitive motion detector at the front? Weird!

Assuming this is an S1.....

Think it's TADTS. There was a gear selection problem but that was when the car was hot and was fixed under a recall.

For the alarm, disable the sensor? If the roof is off maybe a draft is moving something and the sensor is being highly strung.

Correct, S1.

Once car is warmed up the gear selection is fine. The roof is on in the garage. Cobra alarm fitted, would there be a sensor at the front of the car for exterior movement?

Very odd.

Perhaps the gear linkage is a bit worn and needs adjusting. I find on mine that selecting another gear then reverse helps. Eliseparts do a linkage kit which is supposed to be an improvement if it's that bad.

With the alarm, no idea. Try disabling the sensor (big button then small button on the fob and it will beep quietly) and see if it happens again.

Easy way to stop (or at least reduce) your 'box crunching when selecting reverse is to run the lever through some of the other gears first. If you move the lever through 3rd and 4th plane, then, most times, this is enough to slow the internals of the 'box enough to prevent any crunching on reverse.

Thanks for the tips, I'll be off to Sinclares soon for some suspension upgrades so will see what they can do for a more permanent solution.
