I watched the debate and vote coverage tonight and came up with a theory.

Now I don't usually post on here and you can flame me to Hell, I really don't care.

However, tonight's entertainment got me thinking and here's my theory, which I
arrived at over these considerations.

The fixed term parliament act has only two escape clauses and the second one is of interest...

'The Act specifies that early elections can be held only:

if a motion for an early general election is agreed either by at least two-thirds of the whole House or without division; or

if a motion of no confidence is passed and no alternative government is confirmed by the Commons within 14 days.'

Ok, we know what happened to part one but here's what set me thinking.

When trhe votes had been cast and announced, Boris responded with the expected stuff but the Tory side
then started cheering and waving hankies when by rights, they should have been morose.

In fact, all night, the tories were largely doing the least shouting whereas the other lot, Libdems and SNP included
were bellowing like mad.

I therefore think that...

  • The tories, under the direction of Boris et al, will execute a no confidence vote between now and the
reopening of parliament.

  • This way, they get their general election - at the time of their choosing - but here's the scam.
  • They know they won't be rel-eected so they'll have the NC vote around the 13th Oct, or they may even do so later.
  • The hapless new party then has its celebrations undermined because they'll inherit a truly bad situation, with minimal time
to execute brexit. Yes, I know an extension is possible but I also know what first impressions do.

I came up with an analogy. You have a house to rent so before it goes on the rental market, I'll take
the keys and arrange the following...

  • Breakage of all the amenities inluding furniture.
  • A deliberate flood just before potential renters show up.
* A rent-a-git dirty protest to include carpets, curtains and the kitchen worktops.
  • A gang of squatters.
I thought tonight that Tusk & co were probably rolling in the aisles.

But if the above does prove true...

over to you.

Errr, perhaps just think that through a bit ...

Quite! Like the thought process but how are they going to vote when parliament isn’t sitting?

Equally, how do they propose to win that vote when they don’t have half the House to vote for it?

It's interesting that on News at Six, the Beeb listed exactly what I'd described as one of Doris's
options.

It may be the case that, although the House i on suspension, the parties aren't.

It won’t end anything but a VONC where the government has no confidence in itself and yet the opposition does will add just a lot of gravy to the ongoing situation. In fact I would imagine team BJ is banking on that.

Better to keep quiet and let people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and confirm it wink

Swinson and Blackford both looked particularly stupid last night. Give them rope....

A government can call for a vote of confidence(as opposed to no confidence). There is no guarantee that the Ulster Unionists would support it.
