3 Years with the same issue.

Absolutely fed up to the back teeth with my other car, swift sport 2008 reg.
For 3 years now, let that sink in, there has been a constant click click noise with every wheel rotation when the brakes are applied once the car has been driven for a few minutes, it is so loud anyone stood outside can hear it.
Ive had the pads changed for new ones which solved the problem for a few months, ive had the caliper replaced with another one which solved the problem for a month, had the droplink changed which did nothing.
All this happened literally the same day it had an alloy refurb and the garage refuse to take any liability, no mechanic has succesfully sorted it out, isent that the only job they have to do? 4 mechanics its been to and not once has it been solved for more than a few months.
Im very confident it is the pads moving about when braking, when you brake hard there is no noise, only under light or medium pressure.
Anyone have any idea of anything else i can check?

Are you saying it was fixed and came back? What was the fix?Ive just ordered some pad shims to fit, they are mettalic, hope this helps, any guides on how to fit them? it mentions they need to be stuck onto the pads?
Did the noise start around the time of the wheel refurb? If so, do you have a spare wheel?
If so, I’d remove a wheel, for the spare and then go for a drive to see if the noise goes away. If it does then there is a problem with that wheel/tyre. If it doesn’t repeat until you have been through all four.

Its only when braking and only when the brakes have warmed up, if it was a wheel or tyre issue it would be constant i would have thought, ive also swapped wheels over for the other side but the noise comes from the same wheel everytime. Do you think changing the anti rattle shims on that side might help? if they have maybe not been changed before and warped over time? Is it as simple as whipping the pads off, fitting a new shim and refitting or do i need to clean all the disk and copper grease it all up again.

I have had a similar, if not identical issue on my MX5 for over 2 years. The car had been to various garages (incl. Mazda, independent specialists) and no one could solve it, except to say the brakes were all working fine.
Then a few months ago I took it to a local 'old-skool' mechanic, who also has an MX5 and he identified it straight away as being an ill-fitting brake pad. Anyway, I had a spare set of pads and took the car back in. A few days later she was ready to pick up, everything sorted. I can't tell you how much of a relief it was to get her running fine again, so I feel your pain.
Edit: One thing I did investigate was the 'W' clips keeping the pads together . We found a YouTube video of a similar noise and the cause was a missing clip. I remember loosing one of mine so was getting hopeful that it was going to be a very cheap fix, but I must have replaced it because they were all in place. Is this something for you to check with your car?

Yet throughout this....have you even looked to see if the pads are loose in the caliper ? in order that they might make noise ( which would almost always be when the brakes are not in use.
Although you seem to be saying the noise is present and repetitive when the brakes are actually applied ?

the pads are loose as you can push the retaining shims and it moves a lot compared to the opposite side, there is also a click clack over speed bumps which has also been there for years but that was before the brake noise started.Although you seem to be saying the noise is present and repetitive when the brakes are actually applied ?
I have bought some new shims and brake pads to fit next week hoping it solves the issue as theres nothing else to change, i think the shims have been reused maybe last time which is why the problem was only solved temporarily until the pads worn a bit again, so im replacing shims and pads, rest of that side has been replaced near enough theres just nothing else it could be.
Wheels have been refurbed but they did not remove the plastic/paint from the wheel nut/bolt cones in the wheel or the flat backs of the wheels themselves.
Remove the wheels, clean the paint/plastic off the flats inside the wheel that make contact with the hub & also from the cone inside the nut/bolt holes, torque the wheels on properly and it will be sorted.
