The lines should be at the top, not the bottom but they should rotate anyway: I never took much notice of which way up they were when I put mine in. Are you sure the lens isn't 'inside out'? The only time mine were uncomfortable was if I'd managed to invert one before putting it in.

There are loads of brands of lenses you can try to find one that is comfortable. I used Acuvue Oasys 2 Weekly & they were good for me. Maybe try dailies as well, although I found them tricky to handle as they are so thin.

Your'e not stuck with buying them from your optician, just buy online:

https://www.lenstore.co.uk/
https://www.contactlenses.co.uk/contact-lenses

Are a couple of places I've used.

I wear daily lenses. The toric lens is noticeably thicker than my other standard lens. Maybe that's the problem?

You eyesight will never be as good as it is with your glasses. You might have to go a step worse and forget about the toric lens.

I've never noticed a line on my toric lens before. I pop it in and it does take a little few seconds to seat correctly. I'm just using Specsavers own brand and been happy with them.

The dryness doesn't sound good.

Doesn't really matter which way you put it in (as long as it's not back to front). The lenses for astigmatism are weighted so they will rotate into the correct position.

However if you spend time with your head on your side, or you agitate your eye, it can rotate and your vision will not be as good. Blinking (with your head upright) will help it rotate back to where it should be.

Yes. I’m -16 with severe astigmatism. Worn lenses for 20 years.

Was wearing Hydron z6 toric which is pretty old tech, changing them every 6 months.

The optician suggested silicon hydrogel as an alternative - I tried 8 different pairs and couldn’t get stable vision, so went back to the Hydrons.

Not they’ve been discontinued (I think) we tried more silicon hydrogels (same problem) and some hybrid lenses with a hard centre. These have me terrible trouble with glare at night so I couldn’t drive or even sit and watch TV of am evening.

Currently mostly wearing glasses and two year old Hydrons when I need to.

The good news for me at least, surgery was an option. I’m having Implantable Contact Lens (& laser if required) in October. It will be transformative, and the good news is it wasn’t as expensive as I was expecting.

I've worn daily Torics for about 18 years now at -7.5. As already mentioned it's very easy to get it inverted so double check that.

Other than that you'll need to try all the brands. I've worn air optix for around 10 years now but it took a long time to find the perfect match.

Try:
Alensa
Vision direct
Feel good contacts

I hadn't worn contacts for ~10yrs but recently went back to them to use last month for a trip to Florida. Previous lenses had been normal non-Toric despite having slight astigmatism in one eye, now I've been prescribed Toric lenses for both eyes.

They feel slightly different to non-Torics (might just be my memory of wearing them), but I had no problem wearing them for 8-10hrs whilst 'doing' Disney parks and being in buildings with massive amounts of air-con didn't appear to cause problems.

Only issue I had was wearing them at work (computer user), lasted 2 mins before I realised I wasn't comfortable with the vision when using multiple screens. Lenses out and glasses back on.

Thnaks for all the tips everyone.

Weirdly, i was messing around. I put the left lense (none toric, normal lense) in my right eye (the astig eye) and it fit like a glove. It was perfect in terms of comfort. I basically had two 'left lenses' on.

I couldnt really notice much degrading of vision, but obviously there was a little bit, because the power was wrong.

I've checked the boxes and im definately on the right side, so that's not been an issue before.

However the right eye is now perfectly comfortable using a none toric lense. So why have two opticians now given me these horrible uncomfortable toric lenses for my right eye? Can i not just get normal lenses? I'll have to make another appointment.

If you've had the same prescription from two opticians then it would seem that the toric prescription is correct. What is your contact lens prescription (it may not be the same as your spectacle prescription)?

In another post there was a suggestion of how to calculate a compromise prescription if you wanted to try a non-toric lens:

If I wanted to specify the lenses without the astigmatism correction, do I just omit the Cyl and Axis figures from the distance prescription?
Going back to this from earlier - if you're going to have a shot at this, then order what's known as 'best sphere' which is the Sph correction plus half the Cyl.

In your case, this is (+1.50) plus (-0.25), so you'll need to order +1.25 R+L.
I would expect your vision to be less clear than wearing your full prescription, however.
If you really can't get on with toric lenses then try a cheap non-toric to see if it's good enough.

Never leave lenses in overnight! Regardless of what the manufacturer states and markets.

OP I personally wear Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism (2 weeks) Best compromise for myself. Couldnt get on with Dailys as fiddly & more expensive.

Not an issue for me, as I said in on a Wednesday out on a Monday, then the spec’s on for Tuesday.

I’m no expert (and only take the professional advice).. taking lens in and out of the eyes can lead to potential infections..

I shower, swim (sea/pool), sleep in my lenses. I have no issues. My lens meet my needs.

I’m only stating what my optician has prescribed me and putting them in once a week and taking them out once a week works for me..

My friends (who can) have opted for laser now (and not looked back... as such) I’m the last standing contact lens wearer within my social circle.

I trialed a monthly pair you kept in for a full month, technically to get me through a 2 week lad holiday so no changing lenses and youd never know when you get back after a night out, if you did haha. Done the job, but at night felt dry, and a good few blinks to get going in the morning. Never took them permanently and stayed on dailys.

Honestly, that's a terribly long time to be wearing lenses. I can't find any link that says six continous days is advisable & the longest period recommended is 16 hours:

https://www.aop.org.uk/advice-and-support/for-pati...

It's particularly bad to wear them while showering as it's a good way to get Acanthamoeba keratitis. If you're lucky you'll just end up with months of pain & if you're not you can go blind.

The risks are made far worse if you don't disinfect your lenses every night.

I'd be worried about a lack of oxygen to the cornea as well, I don't trust the extended wear lenses one bit

I'm just amazed that an optician would say it was OK to wear lenses like that. Mine would confiscate them if I told her that was what I was doing.

Sight appointment today + contact lenses health check (12 month).

No issues with my extended wear lens, although, I did ask a few questions (thanks to the above points).

Ive been wearing them now for at least 5+ years,( perhaps 8/9 yrs) and according to the optician there has been a move away from extended wear, as people had been wearing them, regularly taking them out and putting the same lens back in which had led to infections, and or people leaving them in for indefinite periods.

In fact he went as far to say they were probably pushed to much.

However with my routine he is happy, and sees no issues, mine go in and don’t come out (until day 5) no other fluids ingress.

Of course they have ‘recommended’ that I look into Laser surgery... no thanks.. for me I’m a firm believer in not having unnecessary surgical procedures.

Thanks for the points above they were brought up today..
