Or there's the other side of Ibiza, which is meant to be lovely. Should be able to get a dirt cheap flight, then pick up a car and whizz away from los chavos.
I was in Minorca last week and it has some lovely places. The resorts are definitely British, but venture 5 minutes away from them and you won't encounter another Brit.

Have you thought about Croatia? We went last summer on a Flotilla and had a fantastic time. Lovely part of the world; Dubrovnik was lovely, and theres plenty of white sand / blue sea along that Dalmation coast.

In the Aegean Skiathos sounds about what you want. Boat ride to/from Santorini or direct flughts in. Just ensure you stay in a hotel that is slightly out of town.

Go on then, tell more. I went to Luxor when it was just Mrs Smoke and I and thought we'd like to try Sharm but along came Jnr Smoke. Everything on hold for the time being.

Just got back from an all inclusive in Tunisia which was mostly excellent. Beautiful beach with plenty opportunity for cultural trips etc nearby. Egypt and Turkey very similar in terms of fab beaches near to culture etc, though Eqypt is slightly better for activities such as diving / snorkelling etc.
Greek islands can be similar but not all and many are somewhat chav populated during peak season.
Beware also trying to save money on your choice of resort in Tunisia, Turkey etc as go too low and you'll end up in a Chav zoo

In just under three weeks, me and the missus will be heading off to Cairo for three nights, followed by Sharm El Sheikh for four (with plane transfer inbetween) so we'll have the best of both worlds. Get to see the Pyramids and Egyptian Museum, but won't be in Cairo for very long (which from what I hear is a good thing) then relaxing on the beach for her, and some diving for me in Sharm.
Booked through Kuoni who do similar two city holidays in other places as well.
If you fancy some beach/snorkelling action but don't want to dive then there are probably better places than Sharm e.g. Dahab (if you have hippy tendancies) or some of the mainland Red Sea resorts.

On another note, if you fancy somewhere Greek then I can highly recommend Santorini, or Paros/Antiparos. The former is based around a volcanic caldera, and Ia on the Northern tip is beautiful. Good beaches (with black sand - watch the heat!) Paros and Antiparos are very quiet and relaxing, but with nice beaches, some diving and Paros is good for windsurfing.

Haggle, yes, but no different to anywhere else.
Pestered, not really, they're keen to get you in shops of course and provide taxis. God! the Peugeot taxi's
I'd managed to forget about them!!! What we saw of the desert was beautiful. The Red Sea was interesting, and full of fish (there's a surprise). The resort (Naama Bay) was pretty bustling. Too many kids for my liking, and the rude sort of tourist - but you get those most places.
We came back and had another look on the internet at the hotel we went to and couldn't believe that people had been to the same hotel. We thought it was good, relatively quiet and good service with a variety of food - excellent arabic of course. Most moans were about the lack of service, the terrible food, trying to get a deck chair and how noisey it all was. We assume that some people don't like arabic food - or what they manage to proudly offer as "international cuisine"
The airport administration wasn't too bad (for a Middle Eastern country) but the tourists could do nothing but moan!!! Not entirely sure what people expect when they're in an arabic country!
Strange experience all round!

A Greek island sounds good, but try to steer clear of Blackpoolios.
Of course, when in Lesbos one must delve deeply into its treasures.
There is loads of other stuff to see besdies the Pyramids. TBH apart from the photo opportunity actually going in the Pyramids is a bit of a waste of money.
