Hi all

I rented a Disco 4 for wild camping the Outer Hebrides December2018- January 2019 and loved it

Now looking to buy my own vehicle and kit it out for over landing, nothing to serious but just getting out their in the wilderness and dropping off the planet for a couple of weeks at a time.

My dilemma is choice of vehicle and initial cost.

I have narrowed it down to two choices at the mo and Iam just fishing for people to give any input as to which one I should go for and why

First choice is a Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 DCI Tekna 2011 £8,495, 110,000 miles

Second choice is a Nissan Patrol Trek 2008 £8,995, 75,000 miles (ex MOD United Nations)

Both have got their + & - so any input from people who have owned either or both or clued up 4x4 adventures or offroaders

Cheers all

I ran a 2008 Pathfinder for 5 years, a bit agricultural to drive but was a great family wagon, used it for daily 10 mile either way commute and for camping expeditions all across Scotland. Best asset was it's large boot, plenty of room for a weeks camping with a kayak on the roof. Had over 100,000 miles on mine before I traded it in for a boring estate car, now miss it. Major downside however was the cripplingly poor fuel economy, average 22 MPG and the heavy annual tax of over £500.
