Attached is what appeared as a home assembled auto accessory that my wife had purchased at a suburban Detroit garage sale. It was not new, so I took it apart for cleaning and refurbishment.

-The chrome body was a commercial product I had seen before Just dirty, easily cleaned. A quality piece.

-A thin steel disc performed the background for the emblem. It appeared home made. Hand cut with peeling paint. It needed filing to improve its roundness and a black respray to be presentable.

I looked up the emblem and found it to be a hat badge from an historic, but still active, British military unit, The Queens Royal Lancers. Their striking motto, "Death or Glory".

New Application For Badge

In my mind I saw an "old soldier" creating such a prise with his badge...displaying it on his auto as an act of regimental pride. Or, break my bubble and tell me same/ similar military grille badges can be purchased at numerous UK locations. What do I have?

In any case I think its a handsome, appropriate addition to my Vantage coupe.

Moto is Death or Glory and is the 17th/21st Lancers as per charge of the Light Brigade in Crimea. Think they were disbanded in 1987 or 88. Friend of mine was an Airforce liaison officer and his salary couldn't cover his mess bill!

TR-Spider Yes, I filled the 7 plastic verticals with Bondo, a body filler repair material, to effectively create the 4 blade appearance (Redpants had pioneered this look, although some early Vantage racers used it as well). Painted new assembly with black Plasti-Dip. a rattle. can from Home Depot. Takes 4 to 5 thin coats to make the new grille a unit with a rubber, damage resistant, surface.

Running a "4-Blader" myself, I always wondered how it would look like - looks very good indeed, worth the effort!
