What is the legality with crossing traffic cones ?
Water company has changed a 4 lane road into 2 narrow lanes using cones.
Would I be ok to filter on the other side of the cones ?
Not much on google

I am surprised you need to ask, in all honesty. In almost all situations, they are there to provide a safety barrier between traffic and the works (people, equipment and hazards).

You may surmise that they don't need to be there, but I doubt the law would worry about that...

But you don't know. Pointless snippyness, really.

Just so I'm clear they've put a barrier out to protect the work force, general public and to allow plant access but you want to ride a motorcycle within the confines of this.

The cones seperate the 2 lanes of traffic, on a normal road I would filter past the cars in my lane by crossing the white lines, the cones are in place of the white lines in this instance, would crossing them be legal.

I'd hazard an educated guess that the police could do you for dangerous or driving without due care or attention. It's a restriction imposed on the road and you can only enter the confines of it with lawful reason.

Ok, so not "works" then? While the protective element isn't relevant, I still think you would have a problem, as you cannot easily cross back to your side of the road the way you can cross white lines. If you are simply wriggling past stationary traffic, you'd likely get away with it though.

By the way, if one thinks my earlier comment is snippy, you're mis-reading it...

Great thanks, to be honest I have been sitting behind the cars in the queue, but I saw a bike filter past me and the cars on the other side of the cones and was wondering if it was legal.

Frustrating, isn't it!

I have done it in the past, but I don't make it a habit.

If it helps, while I am stuck, I try to alleviate the frustration/boredom by thinking about all the other illegal things I've seen people do that also won't do!!
