Trying to drive at 70
Discussion
Not sure what happened to andy400's original post so how about a guess.
Trying to drive at 70? Discuss, one side of the screen only.
Thread could go one of three ways.
1) Elderly person possibly not up to it.
or
2) Discussion about congestion, M25?
or
3) What a PITA it is if you try and stick to 70 on motorways these days.
Go on we're all agog, do tell.

Elephant racing has now become highly contageous. It is working it`s way down the food chain.

one things for certain, it's a damned sight more dangerous NOW than when: finding yourself boxed into potentially dangerous situation You could accelerate out of it.
Trafpol used to allow traffic to flow freely to "sort themselves out". Now it's a rolling, bunching, road block. Just waiting for an accident to happen.
People like "the motoring charity BRAKE" (charity? who do they collect for then?) have a lot to answer for, in their misguided assumptions, (obviously fueled by their own inadequacies) they have managed to make our motorways increasingly MORE dangerous.
Heard them on the radio today saying: "What WE want....." Oh really? who elected you? bloody minority groups, ......they should go bury their heads in the primeaval swamp that they emerged from.
Trouble is, these unelected, unrepresentative morons have the ear of the policy makers who "advise" government. ........PAH!!!!!!
Sorry, .......and breath.

Coming back from Stratford-upon-Avon on Monday evening and I wasn't in a rush so I decided to sit at ~80mph or just a touch under.
Almost impossible to do and not be either held up or hold someone up.
MLMs and elephant racers mean lane 2 is frequently blocked and going into lane 3 means speeding up to ~90 to avoid imposing on people makeing (safe) progress.
It's even worse doing 70!
My better half is Swedish and she can't believe the poor lane discipline and inability of >75% of drivers to return to lane 1 after overtaking. Some of the time they only seem to do it if there's 5 or 6 miles of inside lane free.
Only time I don't pull back in is if I'm going to have to pull back out again within about 10 seconds... what criteria do others on here use?

That's pretty much what I started this thread with (before it disappeared!). Trying to drive at the speed limit on a cual c'way or m'way - nigh on impossible.

Are we? I would have thought that 30 million drivers is hardly a 'minority' group?
Quite true, it could be a hell of a pressure group if only we could get together and speak (or better still roar) with one voice!
Best wishes all,
Dave.

I don't think we're in the minority: how many drivers have been taxed by revenue cameras since Labour got back into power in 1997? Hundreds of thousands, probably more. ...and that's on top of those not caught who also detest these non-safety revenue devices and other covert methods such as hidden mobile traps. Those in favour of absurdly low limits for whatever reason (taxation or a stupid belief that it makes you safer) are the ones in the minority. It's just that the majority are acting in defense all the time.
I think technically car owners are in a minority, but drivers and vehicle users are in a clear majority.
From the Govt's own figures.
Four fifths of all travel is by car.
81% of men possess a Driving licence, while for women it is only 61%
Only 27& of households did not have access to a car, but that only represents 20% of the population as households without a car tended to be smaller.
So however you look at it the motorist is in a thumping majority, so why are our views ignored, deliberately thwarted and disadvantaged.

Because we have not yet managed to get together in sufficient numbers to present our case forcefully, and effectively tell the government to get stuffed.
That is not to say I want to throw all the rule books away, because I certainly do not, but I do wish we could agree on a rational approach that gives us reasonable freedom in our driving and achieves a significant improvement in road safety. I strongly believe this could be done, but we have some work to do first.
Best wishes all,
Dave.
