Pre Cat carpet fixing holes
Discussion
Hi all, I've removed the under seat carpets for a good clean, and whilst scraping off old glue from the floor found 4 x 9.5mm holes, 1 each end in the front face of the outrigger to chassis tunnels under both the seats, 30mm above the position of the floor to chassis bolts. Closer examination shows matching smaller diameter holes in the carpet, and I found the remains of a hard black nylon material in one hole. I have had the car 20 years and never noticed these holes before, as they are open to the road below (although within the outrigger brace tunnel) I am keen to put back whatever was there , or to fill in the holes.
Would anyone on here know what these fixings were? They could be a peg or a mushroom type fixing, but the holes in the fibreglass are rather large at just under 10mm. I have no idea if these are peculiar to early cars or if all Griffs had them.
TIA

I retrieved the chewed up black nylon plug that was in one of the holes, has a sharply tapered end where it went through the hole in the GRP and it looks like it had a self tapper screwed into it once on the inside of the car as you can see a coarse thread in there under a magnifier.
I rang D&C Trim and Chris said they have not seen this before in a Griff, but there was something similar in some wedges, an arrangement to stop the footwell mats from slipping forward. I have the original front mats and looking closely there are tiny holes in the rear corners opposite where the holes are, so looks like the mats were indeed screwed through the layers of carpet and into the floor via a bung. I might see if I can replicate this but will probly just fill the holes in as never been a problem. Maybe a feature dropped early in production or a dealer mod, who knows.
