Brake Dust on Rear Wheels - Golf mk6
Discussion
I would say equal, but if I were to chose would be drivers left.
Sometimes get a burning smell when getting from the car, or when pulled up a traffic lights with window down.
Had rear calipers and discs done about 30k ago, and loosened the handbrake splitter under the central console.
Also have suspected master servo failing (hard brakes but vacuum OK) - maybe all related?

One side or both? Are the rear wheels hot to touch after a trip?
Seized caliper would be my guess from the info you've given, VW rear calipers aren't the best with age.
I did a test where I squirted cold water onto the discs, and yeah the rear ones fizzed more then the front so hotter, but also put my finger on them and loads hotterSeized caliper would be my guess from the info you've given, VW rear calipers aren't the best with age.

Different brake pad material - I've the same on my Focus RS the rear wheels seem to be worst always
Yeah that makes sense, pads were done at the same time, front pads older than the replacement rears. So could be different material But, when on an incline and lifting on and off the brakes as a test. Sometimes will roll back fine, sometimes feels like they are sticking a bit, could this be linked to the master cylinder issue? Also have a dragging clutch, on VW's I think the brakes and clutch share the same reservoir? So just throwing out ideas, could that be related?
Had a few calipers sieze but never had 2 at the same time and you feel both rears are getting hot together so may not be that but that’s the obvious thing to check first .
All modern cars have electronic stability controls which use the brakes to stabilise the car both front and rear, if you drive enthusiastically the rears may be working hard , we had similar issues on a skoda superb years ago and that went through rear pads twice as quickly as the fronts from new .
