Frozen white Fiesta ST150
Discussion
Hi all,
I bought the fiesta back in March after a few years of VW, BMWs and a brief bit of shenanigans with a Suzuki. I've had a few ford's in the past and decided to buy another Fiesta.
First proper run out up north, couple of hundred miles and a confirmation that I made the right decision.

First job on the list was to have the wheels refurbed, they were pretty chewed up but the wheel specialist did a fair job.

due to the work commitments and other hobbies the fiesta was left alone for a while.
I spent some time collecting parts here and there until it developed a water leak that required a top up every other day.
Today I took the plunge and changed the water pump and thermostat. I recon there was a crack in the thermostat housing that was expanding when it got hot.
Having owned a couple of BMWs in the past it taught me to keep on top of the cooling system so I changed the pump as well.
Not going to lie, it was a s
te of a job. I even went full Jeremy Clarkson and dragged out every hammer I own to get that pump out. It was a nightmare.
Pump and thermostat done, the temps are a bit more happier.
Even found a stowaway (well what was left) behind the pump pulley.

Two of the parts I picked up were a 60mm throttle body and a Mountune CAI. Looking at the Ebay ad for the CAI, I thought I was taking a risk with it but I couldn't have been more wrong. The kit came with new bolts, pipework and a very clean K&N filter
The throttle body is a bit of a chinese special and I read that they could be a bit hit and miss but the car stated off with the usual 1k rpm idle which soon settled

The induction kit makes a good throaty sound and coupled with the TB, the car pulls through the revs a lot nicer.
While I had the car up on the jack I realised my blowing exhaust is getting worse. i will need to get it booked into the garage to be re-welded.
I also swapped the drivers headlight and changed some of the power steering fluid. Could be a placebo but the steering feels a bit nicer and with the added bonus of quietening down the pump a bit
I'll update this thread further when I get some time, may be a while...
Thanks for looking

Love it. I had a 2007 ST in Performance Blue and it was just a pleasure to drive and own. I had the box rebuilt under warranty to fix a poor shift into 2nd (didn’t help) and it had a penchant for wearing out rear tyres but other than that the car was faultless. The 60mm TB swap is a good idea. The engine is no masterpiece but a few mods to help it along can only be a good thing.
The Fiesta has taken a bit of a back seat over the last few months. The usual job getting in the way of things and a frustrating over heating issue.
A faulty sensor gave some weird readings where the gauge would shoot up to 120 deg complete with alarms but drop as quickly when the throttle was released along with another thermostat, header tank and silicone hoses to the rad that were replaced due to a burst hose.
As said in the post above I have been collecting parts which include:
Mondeo ST calipers, carriers and pads
Focus ST discs
Eibach lowering springs (around about a 20mm drop)
HEL braided hoses
10mm axle spacers
Milltek 4 branch manifold
Milltek sports cat
Mountune resonated cat back exhaust
The calipers and carriers were given new pistons and seals using a kit from BigRed and painted in halfords finest red caliper paint. A night was sorted out to fit the above.
It turned into an 18 hour epic, the manifold was the biggest nightmare to fit, the drivers side drive shaft was removed which resulted in an oil change.
A link pipe between the cat and mid section had to be made up to get it all to fit.
The calipers were fitted up with 300mm Focus ST discs after a minor modification to the hubs. everything else went on without too much issue.

I trust you are aware Mondeo "ST" calipers are the same as all other model's in the range.A faulty sensor gave some weird readings where the gauge would shoot up to 120 deg complete with alarms but drop as quickly when the throttle was released along with another thermostat, header tank and silicone hoses to the rad that were replaced due to a burst hose.

Yes, these ones happened to come off a ST joropug said:
I was just going to say that. My ST220 had the worst brakes I have ever had , ever. Downright dangerous.
I would not bother if I were you. My ST220 could and did go to 150mph plus but you could not slow down to zero from that speed or anything in triple figures without fade.
Bit late for that, they're already fitted I would not bother if I were you. My ST220 could and did go to 150mph plus but you could not slow down to zero from that speed or anything in triple figures without fade.

I've heard they aren't the greatest in the Mondeo ST, probably down to the fact they are the same through the range but they work pretty well in the far lighter Fiesta

Don't these remap to 180bhp? Are they juicy?
Not sure how much a remap alone will give with these but I think with a full exhaust, TB and filter should give a good raise. Have a remap on the list so I will update the thread with a power output once it's done. They can be but its mainly down to the short 5 speed gearbox, high 30s are doable on a run

poor mpg look like a van, i just couldn't do it
No more like a van than any other 3dr hatch
Looks are subjective though, and I think like many cars these rely on the colour to bring out the best in them. For a short-ratio’d 5sp the fuel economy is great. I got consistently in the low- to mid-30s during my ownership experience, and I drove the pants off it every single day.
After the last bout of work the gearbox developed a pretty bad leak from the drivers side output shaft, I ran the car for a wee bit then laid it up until I could get it sorted
While I was at it, i decided it would be rude not to do a few upgrades while it was apart.
A Colins performance gearbox mount and Graham Goode short shift were ordered up.
The work wasn't too bad to carry out, once I got the pinch bolt out of the hub everything went pretty smoothly
The original plan was to replace the passenger side as well but it's not leaking and the pinch bolt was being a bit difficult, I felt it was best just to leave it alone. I refilled the gearbox and threw in a gear protection additive, whether it makes any difference is anyone's guess but we all know the IB5+ box isn't the best and can do with all the help it can get.
The original gearbox mount was getting a bit loose and once it was off I realised there was a couple of cracks forming in the bushes

The new mount bolted up pretty easily

Same with the short shift

When I fitted up the exhaust system there was a bit of a empty gap between the mountune rear section and the miltek cat, specifically the wee bend that goes above the beam at the back of the tunnel
I had botched up a section of pipe just to get the car rolling but it was hitting the floor on heavy bumps
I still had the old stainless steel mid section that I had removed before which had a properly formed bend. I cut it to size and clamped it up. It now fits a lot nicer and the exhaust sounds a mite deeper. Could down to the old link pipe being normal steel.
The gearbox mount and the short shift have made a huge difference to the drive ability. The gear shift is now super short. Will see how it goes over the next while and everything settles in.
