Official Singapore GP 2019 Thread **SPOILERS***
Discussion
Hi all, apologies I didn't manage to get the last two races up- family dramas. Many thanks to Deesee and KernowSid for stepping in
. Anyway, back to business...
Singapore created F1 history when it joined the calendar in 2008 by running a Grand Prix at night and it remains the sport's premier floodlit event.
Invariably running right up to its two-hour limit, the bumpy street surface and relentless humidity make it one of the most physically demanding grand prix the drivers compete in all season.
It’s not always the most exciting watch, but since Germany this season now seems unable to serve up a dull race, so who knows? Mercs and Red Bull start favourites, with CLC playing down his chances of a hat-trick of wins.
Apologies, at the time of posting I could not find Channel 4’s coverage details- I will update when published.

Last year, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton cruised to victory in the Singapore Grand Prix to strengthen his hold on this year's World Championship.
Hamilton's controlled drive from a pole position won brilliantly on Saturday was helped by the latest in a series of questionable strategy calls from Ferrari. This dropped Hamilton's title rival Sebastian Vettel from second to third behind Max Verstappen, throwing away a position the German had earned by overtaking the Red Bull driver on the first lap.
While Vettel was left to question his team once again that season, Hamilton's only worrying moment was caused by back markers at about two-thirds distance.

Somebody will correct me I am sure but the sub-plot to Hamilton's remarkable pole lap here last year was the struggle of Max Verstappen who was very quick and should've had a shot at pole were it not for a drivability issue with his Renault power unit.
The Mercedes is a transformed car from last year which works much better in the tight, slow-speed stuff, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a Red Bull on the front row.
Heat and humidity (and also altitude, which is relevant for a couple of races towards the end of the season) erodes some of Ferrari and Mercedes' power advantage. It is traditional for Red Bull to come on strong from Singapore onwards.
Alex Albon loves a street circuit so if the Red Bull turns out to be the fastest car it is not inconceivable that they could be 1-2, but I feel that would require Mercedes to underperform.
I wonder if this circuit is specialist enough that we might not see the 'big three' teams filling the front three rows of the grid. Maybe a McLaren or a Perez can depose one of them?
McLaren will fancy their chances for best of the rest and will be determined to claw back the ground they lost to Renault since the summer break in the constructors championship.
Racing Point are bringing a big update to Singapore with the target of leading the midfield.

I fully expect that if Hamilton gets the opportunity to do so, he will slam a door shut right in CLCs face, might not happen this race though.
Could be a really good race between the bulls and Merc, though I think Hamilton winning feels almost inevitable.
He won't battle anyone hard until that championship for this year is officially hisCould be a really good race between the bulls and Merc, though I think Hamilton winning feels almost inevitable.
HAAS have various strategies they could employ here:
- One or both DNF through engine failure.
- Send both cars out the pits with a loosely attached wheel each
- Do nothing, and wait for the driver's to collide
All the above have been well rehearsed at previous races and any could be as effectively deployed here.

Just because he could DNF without losing the lead doesn’t mean he will risk it. This is the guy who was so far ahead in his rookie season only a DNF and fifth place in the final two races could lose him the championship ...
Quite. He will never risk it - even though the risk is very small, the reward (having some more fun battles) isn't nearly as important or desirable to any driver as securing a WDC title.
If he secures WDC this year and next, he's a true legend - as much so as any other driver has been, or has achieved. If he messes up this year or next, he will most likely never get that same opportunity. It would also rudely interrupt Mercedes unbelievable winning streak as a team.
Boring track, ugly to watch on TV (grey, grey and more grey) but I bet fantastic to attend-do we have any attendees this race?
ALB V's VER for the Red Bull glory this week, fingers crossed for the first race they are on equal footing
I predict a Mercedes victory but who knows, perhaps Honda will give Red Bull the full beans if they sniff another chance?

The most exhausting/stressful race of the year (and pretty visually spectacular imo).
60c cockpit temps + 80% humidity in race suits..
1 hr 50m race (monza last week was 1 hr 15).
Not the longest circuit, but demanding, 23 turns in 5km. Time ON the brakes is 25% of lap time!!
Anyway one of my favourites a street circuit with overtaking...
