Recommend a Budget 1080p Monitor
Discussion
Hi.
Looking for a reasonably basic monitor for the PC. Doesn't need to be gaming-spec ie 0.1ms response times. As long as it can cope with eg World of Warships maxed out, but that's not too intensive. Don't really need speakers but could be useful. No 4k required. Around 24 inch seems to be my required size. Budget is around £100 give or take.
Looking at this one at the moment.

Any others to consider

Depends if you want picture quality over pixel response time for blurring playing games.
If you want less blur get a TN but the colour and quality won't be as good, if you want quality get an IPS/PLS but there will be more blur.
I ordered this a while ago after reading good reviews for it and the quality was top for the price, I'm used to fast TN screens though so the blur annoyed me so I didn't keep it. https://www.ebuyer.com/744926-samsung-s24f350-24-f...

What do you use now Tony?
Got one of these in the cupboard I used to use with Xbox. They are marketing this as console monitor but it is a PC monitor, they just re-released it with licensing. https://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-RL2455-Console-Offic...
Got this with PC at moment.

If you enjoy your game with the best response and least motion blur/trailing I think taking a bit of a hit on super bright colours and contrast is worth it. I'd get a 1/2ms TN panel.

For the use case you described I'd get on Gumtree and pick one up there, I'm running a 27" 4k disply that was only a little over your budget. Alongside it I'm running a pair of monitors that are exactly what you describe, I paid £50 each for those.
For the sake of £50 I'd just get that Dell!
Indeed.
Having done more research I’m tempted to up the budget a tad to get some half decent built-in speakers . . .

Even if they are good speakers they are in the back of the monitor so the sound isn't coming at you, you're probably better off buying a mini sound bar or some proper speakers.Having done more research I’m tempted to up the budget a tad to get some half decent built-in speakers . . .

This is basically the same monitor but 1" smaller without them named speakers. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-S2319H-LED-backlit-U...
After being down the monitor finding rabbit hole a few times I would advise getting them from Amazon Prime though, you can just pack it back up and return it for free no questions asked if it doesn't fit the bill.
The other issues with monitors is dead pixels, normal shops won't let you return a monitor with them unless its like 5+, but 1 dead pixel can just ruin the whole monitor.
Yes I’ve had Prime for many years. I was choosing between both those models. Just bit the bullet & ordered the 24” as I knew I’d kick myself if I purchased the 23” with its lesser sound quality. I’m not expecting top notch sound, as long as it’s adequate for the odd game of WoWs & YouTube, should be fine.
