hi 2 all that may read this and appollogise (spelling) if its been answered before but hear goes, i've just bought (4 day's) a 5.0ltr chimaera 99 and seem to be having problem's getting it into 5th not all the time but most, even while standing but ticking over, reverse is a little bit of a cruncher to,is this the norm or am i looking at wot could be an expensive repair, the hi speed damping's gone on the shock's to (62000 mile's) so i'm going to replace them with either standard or alternative if somebody would be kind enough to suggest one (price). thank u for reading and your advise if any given, cheer's.

and a big welcome! OH

Can't help with the 5th gear question, but don't worry an expert will be along shortly to advise.

Reverse? They all do that sir! put in into 1st first.

Dampers? Adjustable AVO's had them in my 4.0 sweet as a nut, and cheaper than the standards.

Hope this helps.

Snap, though mine have gone at 28,000, i'm planningon replacing mine with Gaz shocks and uprating the springs to 375lb at he front and 325lb at the rear, i'm also taking the opportunity to change the discs and pads all round as well..

welcome aboard

5th gear is a classic weakness of the Borg-Warner T5 gearbox, one of the synchro clips's just breaks, apparently. It happened on my 4litre within a few days of buying it, but got it replaced under warranty - still had to "limp" home 200 miles in 4th!

Apart from removing the gearbox, I don't think it's a major work-up to change the clip.

I must confess I always thought 5th was there just to enable you to get into reverse....
