Been having problems with the wifes iPad Pro. Its <1 year old purchased from our local apple store. She has been having this problem off and on for months where it just drops it internet connection. She will be watching Netflix or something from our NAS and every 5 minutes it just stops. I always assumed its our cr@ppy BT router.

I have changed a few things, reset the router many times, installed a wifi extender, changed some settings etc etc and nothing seems to work.

I have been looking around on line and it seems a very common problem with the newer Pros. Literally dozens of threads on the apple support forums about this.

Its looking like the next step is to book into the Apple store to get it looked at. However we have never done this before and my concern is they will want to replace it. If this is the case, how do we go about protecting the data on there? She uses it for *everything* and that includes logging into our work and personal accounts, she has various sensitive emails on there etc.

Any ideas? Also anyone else having similar issues?

You could just back it up using itunes, then wipe it down (factory reset) first - and take it to Apple store? If they give you a new one just sync it from the backup.

Apple online chat is generally very helpful.

An Apple store will follow the following procedure (roughly) when the replace a device:

1) Ask you if it's backed up to iCloud. If not they will get you to back it up
2) Sign out of iCloud
3) Wipe the device via Settings->General->Reset->Erase All Content and Settings

Your device is now wiped. I believe at step 3) you can choose secure wipe rather than normal wipe.

They will then have you sign into iCloud on the replacement device and restore your backup

I would start with a reset of Network settings only. If that doesn't work you can try a full reset. YOu might also want to wait a couple of days for the IOS13 update that may have some bug fixes and improvements.

I have done this, including changing the SSID on the router to ensure its really starting again.

I am far from an expert on apple but from what I have read online its an issue with the software so maybe IOS update will fix it... so maybe will hang on for that and see how it goes.

I currently have it set up so her ipad is connected through its own router with no other devices hanging off it so if she has connection issues it can only be her ipad IYSWIM.

The other issue is I start work early doors so I am generally in bed asleep for 10pm. She however is mostly WFH at the moment so she watches Netflix till maybe midnight and I don't actually get to see it when its playing up. Then again during the day I am at work and she is at home so again I don't actually see the issue... but she certainly lets me know each time LOL.

Might it be channel conflict? Is the router set to auto channel or are you forcing a channel? Do you have many other wifi routers in range?

Just a thought.

Is it just the Ipad thats dropping out, my house is full of apple products, we are also with BT

And last year we went through a right faze of wifi dropping out but it was affecting all apple devices, we dont really have any devices that are not apple lol many sessions of fiddling and resetting the the router did not help, hard wired devices were fine.

I ended up turning of the routers wifi signal and installing Google wifi, and to be honest we never seem to have any drop out's since

Re the lots of post and articles saying ipad is dropping wifi I am not sure they help and can be a bit misleading.
if you google any apple product dropping wifi you will most likely get the same results, i just tried and saw many links for example
" iphone xmax dropping wifi signal"

But never say never it could well be an Ipad pro problem, i do have one as well though it is not that new 2017 model.

No just the ipad pro.

Other wifi devices are pretty stable. Yes the occasional drop but that's normally when the actual connection goes down and it effects everything. Maybe once or twice a month. Her ipad drops every few minutes. Whats odd is it can go a few days and be fine and stable then it can literally be unusable for a few hours and a 3 pin reset is the only thing that clears it.

This thread is very similar to what we are seeing.

The first thing I would do when encountering any wifi issues with a BT router and an Apple device is split the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks if they are currently combined.
