Vodafone Fibre? Especially Gigafast? Anyone using?
Discussion
It's just being laid in our area, with much local disruption and mess.
Whilst I like the idea of 900Mb/s; given that;
a) it isn't really "Giga", is it now? is it 1Gb/s+? No.
b) I've got 78Mb/s, as has everyone else locally, so can happily stream 4K, as well as other stuff at same time
c) Vodafone offer no media / tv packages
d) BT TV won't work on it
e) I'd need to subscribe to Sky again :-(
f) the infrastructure is tied to Vodafone only & I dislike Vodafone
g) it's £48/month
..what's the point?
Other than claiming that they've improved "access" to super-giga-mega-fast broadband, wouldn't this money have been better spent improving access for those still on intermittent dial-up speeds?

With the march of 5G it’s even more pointless and unnecessarily expensive!
Depends on your use case.It you are pulling down 100s gb a month then 5g will be more expensive vs good fibre. If you are watching a few movies a month and have 5g coverage (good luck with that in the next 12 months) then yes, probably cheaper.

^This. My hub has current uptime of 28 days, during which I have 425GB of "download".It you are pulling down 100s gb a month then 5g will be more expensive vs good fibre. Unless you live in a major city center you will not be getting 5G any time soon. And unless you are sitting on your front door step or a balcony with line of sight to the antenna, you will not be getting anything near advertised speeds.JonChalk said:

I've been wondering the same as my street is due to be done soon. Why they're doing areas that already have fibre to the property is beyond me!Whilst I like the idea of 900Mb/s; given that;

Daft! It's like electricity companies running their own sets of cables to your house.If there was a proper joined-up strategy, the infrastructure installers / suppliers would be independent, then the ISPs could compete to supply FTTH over the same cable.
I've had it a while now - been very happy with it. I could only get 10Mbit/sec on DSL ( on a good day with a following wind ) where I live - cost wise its been neutral for me as I WFH, so claim it back as my office line. Reliability wise there has been a couple of outtages - but I still have my DSL to fall back to.
It is going in down my road as we speak. I can't wait to get away from Virgin. I'm on one of the higher packages but the reliability has become noticeably worse in the last couple of years and the traditional £3 rises have added up. My work is increasingly reliant on uploads nowadays so a symmetrical 500 will be ideal for me.
