Fabsil - 3rd time lucky

Which Fabsil product should I buy for my Chim roof?

I see there is a Fabsil gold which is a spray so nice and easy to apply but could it damage the paintwork or rear plastic screen?

There's also another one which you apply with a brush. Would this one offer better protection than the spray?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I used fabsil gold as recommended by Heath at the factory.

It seems to work as well.

Spray-on is IMO poor. I've used it and was concerned that it wouldn't penetrate the cloth, it just sat on the surface. I use Fabsil liquid.

Deep clean it. If you can get all the muck out of the weave it will look very much better and more even. I used washing up liquid and a nail brush and scrubbed hard. This dislodged the muck and also the water proofing. I then drenched the roof with a hose pipe and scrubbed it until all the suds stopped. If there's any soap left the sealer won't bond. Then left it to dry completely

Brush it on liberally and quickly. Brush it on in lines and don't let the previous line dry before you paint the next. Best to mask off the window and bodywork on the rear section. Do the roof off the car.

I did mine 2 years ago and haven't needed to do any proofing since.

Thompsons does the trick for me, plus it wipes off very easily even when dry, if you splash it on the bodywork.

Thanks for the replies!! Think I will try the liquid. Worth the extra time and care if it lasts for so long.

This one goes round and round. I don't believe there's any difference between Thompsons and Fabsil. Knowing the industry it's probably all out of the same vat anyway.

I choose Fabsil because I know the product from my youth sealing canvas tents. Fabsil have been in the fabric proofing market for ever.
