Hi all,

I have a 987.2 Cayman S that has a very annoying interior rattle at speed and over slightly rough roads.

It's somewhere behind my head — whilst someone has driven it I tried pushing on various bits of trim — but just cannot find where it's coming from.

Hoping there is a common rattle and someone else may have encountered it.

Daft question nothing in the storage box just behind the drivers head is there. There quite deep. Easy to lose something in there.

I have encountered it. From the exact same location and also Cayman S 987.2. I have also tried pushing various bits of trim. I have not found the source of the rattle...

How far back is the passenger seat? Unbeknown to me a passenger put their seat all the way back then reclined the chair and there was a slight rattle caused by the seat hitting the plastic behind it. Drove me nuts for months until I figured out what it was.

Also try removing the little plastic boot cover on the boot door (the bit that stops prying eyes seeing what's in the boot through the rear glass. Not a long term fix but then you'll know if it's coming from that being loose

I had a rattle from the back of mine, it was not the normal tailgate this, much messing around with the parcel shelf / cover thing yielded nothing. It turned out to be the high level brake light had come slightly loose.

The rear speakers, just aft of the storage boxes, can sometimes do this. I fixed mine by removing all the trim and re-glueing the speaker grills in place.

There is a how to somewhere online that I used but I have long since lost the link.

I am pretty sure you are describing the same rattling noise I had on a brand new 987 gen2 Boxster S.
After 2 weeks back at the Porsche centre the fault was traced to the damper on the r sided back gearbox support !!!!
Amazingly this ‘rattle’ was transmitted to an area just behind the drivers upper seat area.
Mine was fixed under warranty, but I understand that it is not a particularly expensive component.
I know of another identical case to mine also on the R side.

I have the same issue, I suspected it could be a broken suspension spring as I've heard they can snap and rattle, but the car drives fine. Nothing seems loose but it's quite annoying!
