Holy moly!
Your story doesn't quite cover this, is there a period of time from collecting the 'repaired' car from the garage and the fault occurring?

So they definitely, 100%, can't have connected it backwards? Because this behaviour is consistent with a PS rack plumbed backwards.

If it's at all physically possible, and the rack is being replaced anyway, I'd at least ask them to humour you and swap the lines if there's a point in the system where it's possible to connect them the wrong way round.

Wow. I can’t offer any technical help but fingers crossed that you get it sorted quickly and easily.

I don’t see how the power steering lines can be reversed though, as the high pressure and return lines have different size connectors. So it’s seemingly technically impossible to do so.

The garage I’m working with is a reputable Porsche specialist, so I trust them to do the right thing by me. Will let you know how it goes. smile
OK then, if they're different fittings it shouldn't be possible. On some cars there are points in the system where both have the same fittings, and getting them swapped over can create the kind of thing you're describing.

Somebody on the twitter page suggests that the effect is because the wheels are off and that there is no load on the rack (car is suspended on the ramps axle stands) and therefore is normal. Although they incorrectly think it has electric power steering rather than hydraulic. Does the same happen with wheels on and sitting on the ramp (or ground)? I've never seen one started whilst on a ramp with the wheels off so don't have a baseline of what to expect.
