Funny Situation

Hi guys,
My insurance policy ended yesterday and I collected my NCB. However, when I logged into my dashboard to see if it would still work, to which it did, I also discovered a "Certification of Insurance" in my inbox to which it stated that I was insured from 18/09/2019 - 17/09/2020. I checked my bank statements to see if a payment may have been taken but there was nothing.
Doesn't bother me as I've already taken out a new policy with a different insurer but it does make me wonder.
If someone took their chances of "being insured" but crash, are they technically insured?
and, what if they were to be stopped by the police for no insurance but they present that certificate, even though the insurance company said he's not insured. Will he most likely still receive the 6 points or will they give you the benefit of the doubt?
Please don't think im asking these question to see if id get away with it, its just that my mind wonders a bit

you get stopped for having no insurance shown on mid
you present certificate
police call insurer who report cancelled payment
you get done for no insurance
simples
eta: don't you also get fined for not having continuous insurance these days to?

I think you do, I'm sure I've heard about that before.

When you say your policy has ended. Are you beyond the policy end date or have you actually cancelled it?
It may have auto renewed but they haven't attempted to take payment yet.
No, no. 100% cancelled because the renewal price went up rather than down It may have auto renewed but they haven't attempted to take payment yet.

I had thought that originally but then I remembered I cancelled the direct debit. They were switching finance lenders, so you had to phone them if you wanted to renew your policy.

you could and I'm sure everyone who ever cancelled payment probably did, result is the same.
Fair enough, what if in this instance they still monitored your driving. My blackbox is still keeping score of my driving. I will give them a call today to clarify things.

What makes you think the premium must go down?

Be careful regarding the blackbox, a friend's son was in a similar situation. Thought the box was deactivated when he changed his insurer, went out and drove like a dick for a few days, ended up getting his insurance cancelled, cost him a fortune to re-insure.
How did that happen then?BertBert said:

I have to ask the same, he was no longer with the original blackbox insurer therefore no contract. How could have the data been transferred to the the new insurer and equally legitimately used to cancel the new insurance policy with another insurer?Reality is something more like the policy was still live with the blackbox insurer, he drove like a dick (usually after multiple warnings) and then they cancelled the policy due to the level of risk.
I had a similar situation at my last renewal.
I was shopping around at specialist insurers and one day I find an insurance certificate for the next year sitting in my inbox with a message saying thanks for you payment. I thought it was a bit strange so I kept my eye on my bank account for the next few days. Nothing went out, so I call up my insurers and ask them what's going on - their reply was something along the lines of "your payment has been received, you're insured for the year, no need for any further action".
I ended up calling back 3 times and had to ask to speak to a manager for them to look into it (although it had apparently already been looked into) for them to realise that another client had called up and somehow quoted the wrong reference and paid my insurance for me.
As my insurance was technically already in place, they then basically told me that I had to pay even though it was about £200 more expensive than the company I was going to change to. I probably could have refused but oh well, always wondered what would have happened if I just left it after the 2nd phone call and had the defence that I called them up twice to tell them but they weren't interested - no doubt still go against me as it's my responsibility blah blah blah.
I hate the insurance industry, corrupt scammers.

Really? Why would anyone do that? Pay £200 more to a company for something you are going to get elsewhere. Corrupt? More like inept with customers that have more money than sense I was shopping around at specialist insurers and one day I find an insurance certificate for the next year sitting in my inbox with a message saying thanks for you payment. I didn't mind because this policy allows me to drive any car fully comp, other policies I was looking at were for my car only. It was a decision I was still trying to decide on at the time.
